Heater won't blow cold air!!

My MK4 1.2s will only supply hot air. It doesn't matter what i do with the temp dial or fan speed i only get v.hot air. it's not too bad this time of year but i need to get it sorted for the summer. Also the air con does nothing just wheezes a bit.
Does anyone know if the temp control is mechanical ie. valves water pipes and flaps or some kind of pentium based electronic nonsense.

Other issues include: Doors that lock themselves, interior light that won't come on with the open doors and lights on buzzer (all linked i suspect). and of course a cd player that won't play CDs.

I'm hoping to start with the heater before looking at the others.

God help me!

I have got the same problem as you :(.

My fan only blows hot air as well. No idea what this is and cant find anything on the internet.

As for the doors that lock themselves - this seems to be normal, just dont forget to leave ur keys inside!

From what I remember to stop the doors locking themselves...drive away as normal, when the doors lock press the unlock button and the ECU remembers you don't want the autolock feature... if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will come along and correct me...

The door problem, lights on buzzer and interior light problem are all one problem. You have a faulty door open switch, the car doesn't realise that you have opeed the door.

Your pollen filter is prob blocked (this makes the blow very poor) so either remove it or replace it and then you prob need to get your air con system regassed.

Pollen filter is located behind the glovebox sort of in the passengers footwell.

heater problem might be corrosion on the back of the heater unit, atleast that's what the garage told me mine was...

was just a case for them to take it out, give everything a clean up and it sorted it.

There seems to be plenty of things to go wrong with the standard air con unit though.

EDIT: Check out my thread, had numerous solutions:

Well regarding my similar heating problem, I am just after taking the pollen filter out and giving it a good wash. It was filthy but unfortunately has made no difference and I still only get hot air.

The odd thing is that now and again the heater will quite randomly blow only cold air for a few minutes and then go back and blow hot air again.

So what is my next step? Should I start and take out the central console and see if the flap is sticking or if there is any corrosion behind the heating unit?

(Note - I don't have climate control)

Where do I find the pollen filter? Will check mine out.

Mine does that as well, I set it to the top which is 22C I think. Feels like 30C when it's on that! Then sometimes it will go cold and then go back warm again. As though it's trying to correct itself

could be a sticky heater air control flap.

Could be a faulty interior temp sensor if you have climate control. don't forget the CC needs to monitor the interior temp and adjust the heat/chill output to suit. If the sensor is stuck with a reading of say 25 deg and you then dial in a CC temp of say 21 it will blow out cold air to try and chill down the interior.

The pollen filter is behind the glove box. You will need to remove the cover panel between the bottom edge of the glove box and the footwell. Put the passenger seat right back and undo the 5 star type screws, 3 along the hinge edge of the glove box and 2 a little further back and more towards the centre. Remove the panel and up in the rear left corner you'll see a cassette about 9x2 inches (looks) like a toner cartridge. Slide the clips outwards, and pull it out.

it's straight forward but easier if you have a torch and lie on you back!

I will have time either tomorrow or on wednesday to take the centre console and go digging for the flap in the heating control unit.

By any chance would any1 have any tips or photos for doing this and what should i be looking for?

I've just got the elsawin dealer service system working it's got everything the dealers have!
Only prob is how to "lend" it to you.
It consists of an installation cd and data dvd when unzipped all in all about 2Gb.
If anyone can suggest an efficient way of "lending" this i'd be happy to help.

I could of course fish out the bits you want but it would take the same amount of time as giving you all of it!

Depending how you are with computers you could download and set up your own.
Took me several hours of fiddling but worth it!

Thanks for the offer! Is this the same as what is on ebay for £8?

For 8 quid I would just buy it for myself and it would be handy to have for the future
