Hi.

Earler today my "AC" symbol on the display unit started flashing insted of just staying on, car started fine, drove 10 miles @ 60 fine, car sat for 90mins, went to start it and got "click" nothing. Lights on dash dim, nothing happening.

Eventually get it jumped and driving, leave it to charge for a few mins, start driving and as soon as I touch full beam the dash goes mental, all warning lights come on, car misfires and warning buzzers go mad!

Limp it home, will jump it again an take it easy to get to work, any ideas on fault? I can hear a loud clicking from the front end and lights are pulsing... Alternator? Anything else to check? Serial wires? The ABS light was on for ages, went over a bump and it went off... Other loose bits?

HELP!!!

get a multi meter and check the battery. should be high 12.6+ volts when car is off. if its lower than this battery is dead.

turn the car on and have a look at what the volts is then. the alternator should charge the car somehere in the 13-14v if more or less alternator is gone

ok sounds to me like your car is draining the battery life out of it. either that or the battery is crap.

have you got an amp meter????

ok. what you need to do is get an amp meter. you hight be able to convert the multimeter into one but im not sure without seeing it. put this is series with the battery and the power. and when the car is off you wanna see how many milliamps the car is draining. if the figure is high then you got something on somewhere

any amps in the car? have you wired in any gauges. also how long after you turn off your car does your fans stay on and how long does the water pump stay on? i know i had an issue with mine.

see if the pump is naffed. on the left of the radiator as you look at the car behind slam panel

Been shown how to convert to amps. There is a a-pillar boost gauge that lights up when the key is in position 2, along with the dash. Auxillary water pump is toast, and has been cut out the loom by the looks of it, fans stay on a bit, but not too long iirc. Worked fine untill weds night, did a full service Sunday.

ok. you need to use the amp meter to see what your draining. and the with the figure you have to go through all fuses and pull out one by one. so you may need to ppl. this will help in the fault finding.

Having EXACTLY the same problem mate, had to drive my car home on the clutch, then it completely died so i had to leave it over night with the windows down! Changed the battery yesterday and it was fine for about an hour untilthe abs lights and everything else came back on.
Im just about to go out and buy an alternator.:censored:

I too had this problem, car was completely dead but sometimes i would get a dash light disco and it would attemp to start.

Turns out mine was just corrosion on the battery terminal leads, (even though they looked fine) cleaned them up with wire brush, slapped some vasaline on and all was well.
I know it seems silly but this could be the problem?

trying to keep mine above 2k and below 3k at all times, cant wind up the boost or the ABS sensor an TCS unit goes mental, then brake warnin light starts flashing...

i'm convinced my alternator is ok, otherwise it wouldn't run at all...
