I've got a lcr and the epc and engine managment light has come on on the dash. The epc light comes on intermittent when im driving. When the light comes on the car seems to jerk and runs rough. When I stop the car it idles high, up to 2500 rpm. When I turn the ignition off and on again the epc light goes off but the engine management light stays on. Hope someone can help.

Mine did a similar thing a few times, sadly there were no fault codes. It would clear after restarting the engine.

Eventually the light stayed on and the car died and wouldn't start, but the this time the MIL light came on too. Turned out to be the crankshaft speed sensor, changed that and fault cleared, hasn't done it since.

Be certainly worth checking for any fault codes, not saying that's what the fault is either but that's what happened with mine.

I had someone come round with a vagcom. It showed up there was an intermittent fault with the gas temperature sensor in the exhaust. Would this cause the problems im having?

Short answer; yes.

Long answer; the pre-catalytic converter gas sensor (lambda) is used by the ecu to determine whether the air/fuel ratio is correct and it adjusts the mix accordingly. If the ecu is getting a signal that indicates the mix is wrong it will adjust the fuelling accordingly. This could cause a number of symptoms from over fuelling which will lower your MPG at the least or under fuelling which can raise exhaust temperatures and cause the engine to run rough. Neither is ideal and you should get it checked as soon as possible. Could be that the sensor has died altogether or it's just a dodgy connection. Only way to find out is get it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Hope you get it sorted soon, car trouble is a pain!

You got the full details of the fault? As DannyJigg said, its all depends if its a signal/wiring fault with the EGT or if its reading values outside the permissible range.
