Alright guys,

l've been servicing my car today and everything has gone smoothly except for one thing.....my dam fuel filter! [:@]

When ever l've replaced a fuel filter in the past, all l've had to do is simply undo a hose clip on each end, replace it the filter and fit the hoses back on......but this one is being a pain in the back side! lt appears to have wired locking connectors instead of jubilee clips and l can't get them off for love nor money! Can any one lend any advice to help me get the bloody thing off?

You have to jam a thin flatblade screw driver in between the body of the elbow and the thin plastic retainer that slips in behind the flare on the shaft of the fuel filter once it has been pushed into the elbow...

Chances are you will destroy the retainer (snap it in half), but you can rebuild it, and hold it all together with a jubilee clip over the top, which is what i had to do.
Im gonna buy 2 more single use elbows, and replace the old ones. Yow will need to get them apart again, dip the stretched ends of the fuel pipes in hot water to make them soft, and pull the old elbows out. Then repeat hot dip to fit new ones.

Be sure to allow the elbows to dry out thoroughly before refitting the fuel filter. You dont want water in there!

Hope this helps!

Metal snips and jubilee clips, job done

No can do! The elbow is part of the hose set up!

Arh.....that sounds a bit better! l think l might get the new elbows first then before l try and fit the new filter. l don't supose you know any tricks to stop the fuel gushing out of the line/s while lm removing the old and fitting the new elbows do you?

Yeah, definitely get the elbows first!
I was getting impatient, as the sun was out, hence the bodgery!

The end that goes up to the engine can be tucked over an adjacent brake line, and will stop dripping of its own accord.
As for the other end, cut a finger off a pair of nitrile/vinyl gloves, and cabletie it over the top to cap it off while you do the front one. Luckily i had a mate with me, and i just got him to plug it with his thumb!

Unfortunately, theres not a lot you can do about the fuel that will come out the rear pipe as you remove/refit the fitting. Just make sure you have a bowl or tray down to stop it going all over the floor, plus rags at the ready, and have everything ready to get it done in one fast movement. I suppose you could plug the old fitting off with a M6 bolt as you dunk it in the hot water, it doesnt matter if you knacker the internal seal, as its going in the bin anyway!!

Hope this helps!
Dan
