Merrily driving along a fast, twisty B road this week when a nasty sounding crunch from the drivers seat was followed by a strange flying sensation. as the chair parted company with the car! :scary: :drive1:

Managed to hang on to the wheel to keep the car on the road but couldn't get out of the seatbelt to get near the pedals and had to wait until the engine stalled!

Having taken the seat base apart, 8 of the tack welds have broken and one of the arms that engages with the rail on the chassis floor has sheared off. Think this may be beyond repair. [:@]

Have put a thread in the accessories section - any help would be most appreciated!

:help:

think u were quite lucky there mate.
shurely the welds shoulnt snap, that would be my concern. There must be a reason why they did.

Good luck anyhow

ummm... 16 stone of idiot driving 100,000 miles at vmax?

Errr... I was... and it very nearly was! Just lucky the road was quiet and somehow managed to hang on to the steering wheel. May have been superior driver skill but more likely to be a sheer panic reaction!

Driving home was "interesting" - put the seat vaguely back in place & drove back at <20 MPH. I need to keep the cost down as I think the suspension's dying (again). :(

You can just swop the base with another from a donor seat, but I`d monitor the new one. I`ve never heard of that happening, but it made me smile. Not funny really, glad you`re ok.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It was a scary yet surreal moment.
Rather like being in an old slapstick films but remade by David Lynch in a particularly foul mood!

Tried to cannibalise the passenger seat tonight to cobble something together for work tomorrow but found the centre rail offset of the passenger seat base does not fit the driver's side. Of course, only discovered this after dismantling both seats, swapping the seat belt retainer over, etc etc. In the rain! :censored:

Oh well, GF has lent me her AX 1.0 for tomorrow.

And with a bit of luck mOrk may be able to help with a replacement seat.
Or I could learn to weld. A lot.
