Yeah it did. Went to get petrol and I felt vibration through the pedals. Took it back to the garage and it got worse. The mechanic took it out with me and it started making the same tappety noises again. Like I said could be something to do with the crankshaft???

Yeah might be the mains too, due to oil starvation.

Put a shreaded up silk shirt in the oil filler and sell it.

Your engine has had oil starvation and metal has been wearing against metal with no oil. Your engine will just knock and knock and get worse.

Well. The car has been in the garage for the past week. I ended up having a reconditioned engine out of an Octavia. 14 months warranty fitted for £1400. After a lot of money spent I finally have got my beloved car back. Didn't realize how much you get attached to them. Ha ha.
