Hi All,

New to the forum, joined because I've just had a problem that I can't figure out and when taking to the local garage, they seem pretty stumped too...

I drive a 2008 Leon Stylance, it's in pretty good knick.

I was driving to work the other day when the power just went from my car. All the electrics on the dash went out, but the radio, heating and headlights stayed on. After this, I couldn't restart the car. Would turn the key, but the dash lights stayed off and the starting motor never turned over. After a minute or two, the car seemed to work fine. This happened a number of times after varying lengths of time. Happened whether I was accelerating, cruising and decelerating.

I just wondered if any Leon owners have ever come across this issue before?

Any help would be appreciated!

Have you checked the battery and the earthing point? On my Kia the earth had corroded badly and that caused all manner of strange electrical glitches until the car just died. Sort her the earth out and it was good as gold again. Worth checking out as a first port of call.

As Mike said sounds like some earthing issue which should hopefully be sorted fairly easy. Check and clean up your battery terminals and the earth point to the chassis.
If you still have problems then a scan might help before calling in an auto electrician.

Tried all the earths in the car, but to no joy. It is like there is a sensor having a fault and then after a minute it resets and all is well. Couldn't get anyone to believe me until it happened to them when driving it. No error codes either...

What scanner are you using to check for faults? Sounds like you might need a VCDS scan or something like a Maxscan VAG405 to scan the module. Generic readers will only show engine faults that are not VAG specific.
