Why's that then? - with MAF disconnected there was no noticable flat spots just a very slight blip at about 3000rpm...

I was wondering about the VVT this morning on the AUQ engine and when it comes into play... anyone know?

i think youve 2 issues here... a dying maf which was going unoticed to some extent.... and that blip/flat spot thing:D

the failing maf would proberly highlight the blip ect.

see how you get on. maf obviously wasnt working right but if you still feel a slight hesitancy aroung 2.5-3k rpm on part throttle see it as normal.

running a big turbo that very slight blip you describe is more noticable in mine and i honestly think its the power change when the turbo is running to when it isnt being used. ecu sees the part throttle power request and uses a little turbo to get there. hits the level of power required and pulls the turbo away leaving it feeling to the driver like the powers been cut.

mine has improved with the diaphram dv so im wondering if its to do with the dv snapping open closed. (theory being the diaphram has a smoother action than a piston)

Thanks for that, next question, what does the air filter look like!!!!
Had a quick look for pictures of the engine, but no luck yet.
Sorry, been driving fleet cars for 10 years, forgot what an engine looks like!!

Cheers mate that makes sense... a small blip around 2500-3000rpm I can live with but not the way the car is at present - BIG difference with MAF disconnected so its staying like that till I can get the MAF hopefully today or tommorrow :)

Air filter... open bonnet ... air filter housing situated top right of engine bay near strut on right hand side ...

Is it an elongated D shape, with a light blue inner plastic interconnect? coming off the main pipe that comes out of the head unit on the right hand side?
(Told you im new to this stuff! But thanks for all the help, its good to learn!!!)

passenger wheel side (nearside) north of the battery. should be a big rectangular box with a large pipe heading to the engine... hang on...

postt 66 shows the maf connector. but where his green filter is youd have a box. sensor maybe reversed too.

Well fortunately looking at the pics, it looks like I got it right and unplugged the MAF, took it for a spin at lunch, seemed ALOT smoother, the TCS light was on, but im guessing that is a result of the MAF being unplugged?
Is it easy to change? and any ideas how much i should pay?
Cheers for all your help, its been a godsend, was about to buy a dump valve as someone told me it would be that!

Yup the TCS light is due to MAF being disconnected... connect it back up and will dissapear - dont leave MAF disconnected for too long as will kill the catalyst.

Its a 2min job to change and dead easy... one jubliee clip and two phillips screws and then pull out [B)] - I'm doing mine outside GSF as the part is exchange ...

GSF just quoted me £58 + VAT + Surcharge (if required)

Nice one, thanks for the help  looks like a new MAF for me as well then!
IS the £58 including the part ex? Mine is for a Cupra 1.8t, not sure what you are driving.

Price includes the exchange but if you cant exchange there will be a surcharge until you take old part back...

Mines also 1.8T Cupra (2002) with AUQ engine code...

Just a quick thought, have you thought about cleaning the sensor instead?
Ive been having a look at a few different forums, not just Seat and the opinion also seems to be the MAF might not need replacing, just cleaned.
I think i might try the cleaning first, if not replace the MAF, cant hurt i guess?

I've already cleaned it ... ;) ... made little difference and that was only short term for the sake of £60 I'm not messing about - its getting replaced tonight.

If thats the case dont think i'll bother trying to clean mine, sounds like its only a temporary measure, so i think ill try and get a new one at the weekend.

Let me know how easy it was to change, and if your car drives better.

Best of luck with it all tonight! :D

Will do fella... picking it up in an hour or so then will be fitting it along with new air filter so the MAF is breathing super clean air ;)

Sounds good, I just checked my local GSF and they have loads in stock too, so it looks like a lunchtime visit tomorrow!

Will the new air filter help as well then, and I guess they are fairly easy to change?

UPDATE:

MAF installed... air filter replaced... ECU reset...

Massive improvement from before but still a tiny flat spot around 3krpm but its barely noticable ... traumapat was right ...

I have spoken to my mapping guy and he reckons might be able to map the flat spot out ... ;)

How do you reset the ECU after replacing the MAF?

And how much does a remap cost?
