I had a 1999 V-plate VW Golf GTi 1.8 20v T 150bhp (AGU) engine and that I sold with 145k on the clock which had the original gearbox, turbo and clutch all running the upsolute (190bhp) re-map from 115k onwards. It seemed to run better the more miles it did.
Only thing that went was the oil pump and waterpump. Keep the oil changed and look after it and it will look after you.

my cupra has coming upto 109.000 miles and is as sweet as a nut.in fact i bought it with 89.000 miles as these engines don,t feel run in until they reach the 50-60.000mile mark.my previous car was a mk2 ibiza cupra 2.0gti and had 140.000 on the clock when i sold it 2 years ago and the buyer only lost it last october as a stupid van driver pulled out on him and wrote it off .i believe it had an extra 20.000 miles on top of the 140.000.......ok what i,m trying to say is milage doesn,t matter unless you don,t service regularly as modern engines are built to take a lot more punishment so i can imagine there will be more 100.000 plus cars out there now car bodywork is lasting longer too and rust is,nt as bigger issue

Highest mileage Cupra R/Cupra

Just was wondering what kind of mileage people have got these up to before they've started having major mechanical issues etc.

MY LCR is on 88,000 miles and still feels tight as a drum, but I'm sure there are many out there with much higher.

If you reply say whether you are petrol or diesel, I would suspect diesels would have a longer life.

I'm stunned by what you guys are reffering to as "high miles". Are you still also living in the age when 12k miles per year was average?!

Maintainance is more important than miles. 70k in not high miles.

120000 miles and just added a big turbo kit , so we'll see how bullet proof this is , but just changed the cam belt and water pump .

I've just notched up 95000 in my 03 plate LC. Had it remapped at 82000.

I change the oil every 5000 but engine wise it's never missed a beat. Still on the original turbo and it's still pulling hard.

I had a clutch slave cylinder replaced at 80000 so decided to do the clutch at the same time. The mechanic showed me the original clutch and it was hardly worn :(

Looked after, the 20vt will go on for many miles. And the high milers that live on the motorways and A- roads are probably less worn than the stop-start "weekend" motors.

we ve got 123k on our 51 plate LC. I cant believe some of you consider 70k high!! 170k then maybe!

Hehe, my friend has never owned a car under 100k, his Nissan Almera GTi is on 200k now, still original engine and gearbox!

It does feel good to be driving a sub-50k car though!

i just brought a 51 plate cupra with 77k on it and thought nothing of it, its a VAG product surely if its looked after it'll be good for 150k or more..............please comfirm this:confused:

Speaking of mileage and VAG engines, is it true that the early Golf GTi's actually gained power the more they were driven as the engine loosened up?

I have a 2001 LC which is now on 151,000 miles.
Still has original gear box, clutch and turbo.
I bough it cheap 18 months ago with 138,000 on the clock, full service history.
The only problems I have had are two failed coil packs, and a MAF.

mines about 112.000 and feels like half that,it all depends how it got to that figure..but mechanics always sayif serviced regular and isn,t totally thrashed, engine could double the above without a problem
