I've got a horrible problem with my steering. Had to drive it home real slow and park it up now. It occasionally knocks and then jams solid either right hand or left hand steer - almost as if something is jamming in the rack (something lose?). Just backing-off the steering one way and trying again seems to un-jam it and I could carry on manouvering. I'm sure its a positive jam - its not as if its sudden loss of pump pressure or power assist, I reckon. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

When i changed the starter switch on my old polo i forgot to do the bolt up that connects the steering wheel to the steering rack and the joint was moving from side to side making my steering lock up from time to time yours might have come loose? worth a quick check it should be just behind your pedals.

Thanks for that. Well I've got it on axel stands now with both front wheels off so going to have a play with the steering later to see if I can work out whats going on.
