How easy is the LCR to live with?

I'm on the verge of buyin a LCR 225 and wouldn't mind knowing how good they are day in day out. I've test drove an LCR and CTR and like the LCR more at the moment.

Are they pretty reliable etc?

any comments appreciated

ive changed from a diesel to an LCR and i have no problems living with mine although i draw the line at letting it curl up in front of the fire ! serious mate Buy the LCR you wont be disapointed!































Until you get in a remapped one :lol:

LCR is fine as a daily car but the main points...

It's quite noisy with road noise, but not overly so.
Power on a remapped one is a bit on off
It's quick!
It spends a lot of it's time in the petrol station

I found it was great on long drives, but when you want a bit of fun on B roads it's a bit too big and wallowy.

I wouldn't have another one, but I don't regret having it over the last couple of years.

I don't own an LCR, but do on a CTR..

And most of the points Icecavern pointed out for the LCR are the same.. apart form the remap

It all depends if you want a tuneable car with a long power band or a not so tuneable car with a shorter high power band.. and a fantastic sounding engine.. Altho you can get turbo's and superchargers fitted to the CTR.. but you do lose the noise of the Vtec.. and it's only got 3 doors..

From my experence of knowning and chatting to people with both cars, IMO and from what I've been told.. is that the Leon is fine if you don't fiddle.. once you start with maps and dump valves it sometimes goes a bit... but I do not know of anyone that's done something to a CTR and had it go wrong, one of my friends has put NOS on all 3 of his CTR's and not had an issue with them...

In my opinion the LCR is very good to live with:

It's comfortable but manages to be sporty without being overly hardcore.
Its good on long journeys averaging around 34mpg on mine.
Very nice engine with low down power and the turbo kicks in low down for a turbo'd car.
Steering is perfect, not to power assisted and get great feedback through the wheel.
6 speed box is a pleasure to shift with and has a gear for every occasion.
Its practicle in the sense it has 4 doors and a big boot.
Standard stereo is pretty powerful and the CD Changer is a great inclusion.
Big Brakes mean good stopping power and look nice behind the 18" alloys.
It looks mean!
You don't look like a prat in a modded up Nova wheezing your way down the road with a roarty exhaust and a stupidly loud dumpvalve, you look civilised and dignified.

Bad points include

Rattling interior, mainly from the rear seats area.
Petrol stations will know you by name, roughtly 300miles per tank if driven fairly tamely.
Doesn't have all the gadgets of newer cars.
Suspension crashes on bad roads and flicks the steering around if your not braced.
Insurance is higher than most group 17 cars due to high claim rates and increasing number being stolen to order. However most LCRs up to 2005 have a tracker fitted.
Iffy dealership support, you will need to find a good dealership or get servicing at a specialist.
Lack of a decent LSD means wheelspinning is nearly always the case when turning and accelerating from a standing start (Coming out of junctions etc)
Tax disc is currently at £190 a year.
Enthusiastic driving all the time means new tyres at the front but this goes with all high powered fwd cars.

i had the same choice as you 4 doors did it for me . if your into tuning your cars alot of fun is to be had with the lcr get the right map and it doesnt have to be on off . i would say if i was doing all over again i'd change the suspension first. dealers are rubbish though try to find a good independent garage there are a few about . i've had no real problems with my car or the cupra i had before that only niggles . still really like the ctr if i was single without kids i would probably have one.

I can't think of anything better to replace mine. It's got 5 doors, a good sized boot. It's quick and with a remap (which I've yet to do) it gets much, much quicker. It's great to look at and still turns heads.
Build quality isn't fantastic, but short of a few rattles and little problems that are usually covered under warranty there are a lot worse.
I get 350 miles per tank - I don't thrash it, but I don't drive like a granny.
It ticks all my boxes ;)

I've had my LCR for 2 weeks now mate, a 210 with a Revo remap, so running at about 265bhp.

Extremely easy to live with, very quick but also has a decent ride quality (unlike the CTR which, while being great for track days, is awful on our crappy roads IMHO), also plenty of space for cramming a few friends in for a long drive.

You'll get 350 miles max out of a tank by driving "normally" but more likely to get around 300 as the temptation to sink the boot can be irresitable!

I had my heart set on a CTR but after driving one, then testing an LCR there was no contest. The LCR looks better, has less of a chavvy reputation and with the right remap will blow a standard CTR away (on the straights at least!).

Buy one - you won't be disappointed! :)

cheers for all the comments guys, i'm still totally unsure of what one to go for.....i think the LCR would probably suit my driving style best as i prefer not to change down everytime i want to overtake charlie chav in his vtr.

I agree with most of what's been said with the LCR - for me it's a practical family car witj 4 doors and decent boo, but also looks great.
Fuel consumption is sound - way better than my old Scooby running 260bhp, and it's easily as quick, without a remap.
Only thing I would add to what's already been said is that when you actually learn to drive one properly, things like torque steer and that pretty harsh ride aren't a problem, and it can be driven to out-handle most cars - there's a reason many performance driving schools use them, and there's a SEAT Leon drivers championship with LCRs. In a nutshell, it can be civilised, but it can also beat many things on the road or a track.
