Our's is a 1.2 and it's just had 5yr service at 44K miles and the front pads have never been mentioned in its life. Car is mainly used for "urban" (not quite stop/start, but not really flowing either) use.
I've been expecting the "we've got the wheels off and it could do with pads and discs" call every year for the last 3yrs but it hasn't come!

Any ideas if the front pads have any warning lights? as i know my dad's octavia has a light appear when the pads are wearing thin.
My cupra needed it doing at 60K
It was a bit of a nightmare as parts had seized and needed replacing!! Was expensive!!

Mines up to 77,000 miles no new breaks yet they did mention them twice but the first time it was more worn than the second so I told the steelers I must have magic breaks as they are less worn this time, he was not amused. Not sure about the sensors though I wait for mine to start squeeking normally.
I don't think they have sensors - everytime I get mine serviced, the guy says they are getting low, but fine for another 10k so he'll check 'em next service. Been saying that since 50k miles.
Thing is, most of my mileage is motorway so I am not actually braking that much. I think I must be quite light on my brakes as I had put over 60k miles on the fronts on my last car before I got rid of it & there was still plenty left.
