ok started working on it about quarter past 5, gave in at quarter to as the tools were freezing to the floor and lost the light. whole front end is off and started on the belt side of the engine to get the power steering pump off.

spotted something else i didnt want to - negative battery lead is split and nearly off next to the wing. can a universal one do?

loool pssssssttt u aint gott it bad untill u crush ur arm with the gearbox thought was guna die

theres still plenty of time. i get the feeling i might get my engine fitted before yours mike :D

thats probs tru but bet u mine will last longer ;) i dont need mine until january and roads are death traps round here so :ban::ban::ban:

engine and box are just about ready to come out after an hour and a half work. all pipes off, wiring, (avoided trying to unplug the main loom connector by unplugging injectors and feeding the wiring through) all thats left is the exhaust which i may take off at the downpipe. power steering pump needs to come off.

would be nice if i wasnt doing the job on my own in the rain and snow.

Do it at the manifold to head... doesn't matter if you bugger the nuts or strip the threads

Manifold to head - remove them & leave the manifold dangling when you remove the engine

ill give it a bash in the morning. how does the PS pump come off? i can barely see what im doing even during the day. im leaving the pipes on it.

Undo the PS belt (slack it off & remove), then unbolt the pump from the carrier / engine

Then move it out the way to stop it catching. You might want to remove the front subframe out of the way to get clearance round the engine too (don't forget to support it)
