Hi,

I have just booked my car (1.4 16v petrol) in for its MOT with Nationwide Autocentre (as I have tesco vouchers) and the guy mentioned that due to my mileage, 64k, that I should look into changing the timing belt.

I think it's probably best to bite the bullet and change it but wondered what kind of price is average for changing the timing belt and water pump?

The guy at Nationwide quoted approx. £220-250 for the timing belt and water pump, is that about right?

Thanks!

Ye dealer prices are mad, I just got a quote from a VW specialists near where I live for £245 so think I will go for that and book it in for the start of next week.

Mine was 260 for my 1.4 16v, so that sounds pretty good.

Timing Belt

Sounds right. I have just booked my TDi Sport in for beginning of Oct and been quoted £250 for belt, tensioners and water pump

these prices sound cheap compared to what i just paid on my polo gti. a fiver short of 400 quid!!! we wont be going there again! absolute criminal.

~£250 sounds about right for the 1.4s.

Audi charge about £400 to do the job on the 1.9 TDIs in the Audi A6s, having helped my dad do a DIY timing belt change, I can see exactly why!!! I'm glad we did it in a nice warm garage, put it that way! :D
