How much is my car worth?

Hi I am selling my Seat Leon 1.9 TDI SE (110 bhp) I am planning to sell it private but would like some advice as to what to ask for it, here are the details

Seat Leon 1.9 tdi SE in yellow, it is a 2002 on a 52 plate, and has done 36,000 miles, the tax expires at the end of September and the MOT is due in October, the car is clean through out and has no damager to it other than a chip in the windscreen (passenger side) and a couple of very small stone chips on it, it has no modifications and I have full service history. all the tyers are in very good condtion and comes with multi changer CD. I have had no problems with the car and runs really well, it has had 2 owners and I have had it a year which I paid £8000 from a dealer, I am selling due to having a company vehical for my own use, so what is it worth and where is it best to advertise it, Should I take it to car dealers

You can check prices on like for like aswell giving you a good base to formulate an asking price

Not sure on the value, but how you get rid of it depends on how desperate you are. Going to a dealer will be by far the easiest/quickest/safest, but you are very unlikely to get the best price. I personally think you can't beat good old autotrader to advertise, with a nice picture. I know my Dad recently sold a car, got one week with colour photo in the mag, and two weeks on the internet for under £40. Ebay just seems to attract all manner of idiots and messers, and for a car like yours, the local/freebie papers might be a bit naff (i.e. people more often look for cars less than £500 in those papers). Get a price from a dealer, maybe then try it privately for a while. Or you could even try a dealer who is willing to put your car on the forecourt and take a slice of the pie if its sold.

thanks for that, Parkers say £6800 and autotrader says £6100 but you also see dealers offering them around this price, I am in no hurry to sell however I was hoping to sell it before the service, mot ant tax is due in about 6 weeks, if I put it on Autotrader what would be the best way to accept payment cheque? this will be the first time I have sold a car private, I have always part ex up to now.

Cash all the way for me personally. If you take a cheque, I would say a bankers draft and release the car once the funds have been confirmed as cleared by your bank (although this is still no guarantee). A bike I sold once, the guy was convieniently with the same bank as me, so we went to the branch and he transfered the money from his account to mine while I was there at the desk with him.
