How to check for fault codes

i havn't got any kind of diagnostic tool to check with, is there a diy way to check. Eml light is on

I don't think so without plugging something in or taking it to a garage?

I'd personally buy a fault code reader rather than take it to garage as its cheaper and you get to keep it for further use.

as said, youll need a reader to identify the code then take it from there.. theres a sticky in vagcom section which shows code definitions.

damn it too late. code readers are fairly cheap. dealer will charge circa 60quid to fault find via vagcom.

Just don't know what it is, car has been fine since i bought it about 4 days go, but today the eml came on after my normal journey into norwich. Can i disconnect the battery and try a ecu reset?
