The car, when I purchased it, had a huge stone chip, which practically took a lot of paint away whilst denting it. Made it very noticeable indeed, so the first step was..
To rub down the deep scratch with '3000 grade' Sandpaper, very very fine covered in water.
Once that's done, apply some bodywork filler, and leave it to dry after smoothing it in as best you can, once it's nearer to drying properly, once again, give it another going over and filling it as smoothly as possible. This was slightly difficult as it was on a crease. Next was to prepare it for primer, which you can see in the next few pictures
Once it's completely dry, wet some 3000 grade sandpaper again, and wipe over the deep scratch too smooth of the filler, and match it too the shape of the existing bumper work, so you should get a finish such as ..
Don't worry about going too far over and away from the sratch with fine sandpaper, because it's soo fine, it can be polished out afterwards.
The next step, was too, apply masking tape too the obvious area's around the front of the car - badges/grills/lights/number plate etc. In this case, we went too the extreme, better to be safe, than sorry
After mixing up the paint, and applying the primer over the existing filler, it was time to put on a few base coats, then let them dry with close up infra-red lights.
Another few base coats, and more heating via infra-red ...
All gone!
