hello all, right im in the market for hybrid turbo. where the best place?
i know cr turbo's do them any where else? just looking for a bit of feed back that all?
any help would be great!!

its because i phone r-tec, he said not to touch there turbo an amd use there turbo:confused: . just would like to know the sore befor pay out for new 1..

Not to give the company too much bad feed back. Basically they give you a year warrenty on all turbos I gave them a ko3 to be converted to k03s.

Got the turbo back off them and the shaft dident seem to spin so freely on my new turbo got it fitted by a garage did everything that it said on thier warrenty. And 6miles down the road the turbo blew up. Took the turbo back along with warrenty and garage number.

They pointed the blame at me and I had to fork out the cash to rebuild the turbo again. I'm not saying i wasent totaly to blame. I just wouldent trust thier warrenty. It's a con in my opinion.

I have used CR Turbos to build me a K04-023 hybrid. I found them really helpful - had issues with the turbo and they collected it, inspected it and replaced it without any hassle.

No mine is from Turbo Dynamics :) Ian on here is also running the same turbo, both of which share the same aggressive characterics that the CR hybrid lacked ever so slightly, imo of course. Bill/Badger 5 has mapped both variants

Also bear in mind the list of mods I'm running to achieve this power figure, i.e. rods, water methanol injection etc

Others have done hybrids cheaper, though mine was built for maximum possible power from this setup and equally as important; reliability

Where in the rpm scale would you say the diffrences is between TD and CR hybrid? Is the TD hybrid also based on a exchange-basis? Where do you get the TD hybrids from?

Im also thinking of going cr-hybrid, but after reading on different threads it looks like the CR is only good for 260-270 bhp while the TD you´ve got can be pushed further. Rods is essential thou when pushing 280-290 I guess.

why would you continue to fit a turbo if you were already aware of a fault with it?

the same applies to any part, if it is found faulty, then the sensible thing would be not to use it and have it exchanged

and if you say you was not totally to blame, then what did you do which was part of the issue?

Don't get too hung up on my rolling road results guys - dyno lottery still applies.

I can only gauge my figures against other cars I've come across which does seem to put me in that ball park. To give you a rough idea, new RS4s are easy pickings.

The TD units just seem more "lively" than the CR counterparts but that's my own opinion - bear in mind different remaps etc will also contribute as I asked Bill to make mine as aggressive as possible - plus with rods it could really be let loose without worry. There's a lot to be said for peace of mind, though it comes at a price. If you look at my RR printout you can see how the torque is very spiky as it gets thrown in very low down the rev range, accounting for the aggression, The CRT I went out in seemed much more progressive. At the end of the day though they're both still small turbos that will only flow x amount so we're not talking about day and night differences here.

I was lucky that I managed to source my hybrid from a user on the forum selling one unused for a fraction of the price TD want if you go direct.

if there is any 1 else looking to buy 1 in a week or so time may be can can get a better deal!?
and u dont have to exchange you turbo, so you can sell your own..

Thanks for sharing! I´m considering the cr-hybrid as these are on exhange basis and will turn out a lot cheaper then £1100. I´ve sourced all the other parts needed just turbo left. I´m still on the forge fmic and as we all know the pipework on these are far from optimal but I guess it will cope with the cr hybrid setup in the end.

If I get to choose from the top shelf I would go for the TD yes with similar agressive map as yours, getting a real "sleeper" on the road but there´s a big difference in costs(rods/turbo) between yours and running a cr-hybrid setup. As you say there wont be a huuuge difference in preformance but still very noticeble.

How often do you need to refill your wmi tank?

Not so true from speaking with Benny a while ago. His forge FMIC had higher temps than my pro alloy FMIC. It was found it was not the cooler was fine but the pipe work which was reatricting it fron being efficient.

Don't under estimate the pipework, make sure it's good and not restrictive mate :)

i can try them and see if they will do us a better deal on two turbo, at td see wot they say? as they sound like a better turbo! wot as the price of cr turbo's again??

That's the nail on the head really - if you look at price vs performance gains it's hard to justify twice the price for a Turbo Dynamics unit. That's where I was lucky to get one much cheaper. Otherwise it would have been a much more difficult decision.

My WMI tank is 3.4 litres and lasts just 15 miles on track, or ~30 of fast road use. Awesome stuff though :)
