Yes its the same engine and as far as I know they are not having any problem with the DPF and short journeys on the 1.6tdi Golf.

A possible reason for this is the position of the DPF - I have seen the instalation on the latest Polo and rather than combined with the catalyst and mounted in the engine bay as in the Golf, the DPF is seperate and is mounted under the car. Possibly this is only on right hand drive cars- due to space restrictions.

I would guess the DPF is in the same position in the Ibiza-the problem is its going to run much cooler and therefor be more prone to becoming blocked than if mounted directly after the turbo as is normally the case. The end result is that the management system is going to have to intervene more often to try to clear the filter and if that fails the light will come on.

That confirms what Seat uk told me, in so much as higher temperature is required in the exaust and going very fast to clear it will not, as the extra speed will in fact cool it. What about lagging it? may be worth a patent !
