ibiza 20vT clutch upgrade

mmm, may hav 2 be goin down this route soon to......slipy galore!

I think I've got the same Helix VR6 organic setup that Bill had.

Personally I'm not a great fan of it. The clutch pedal is very heavy and theres loads of judder when trying to pull away slowly from a standstill (And has been since day one). Bill, you think the judder could be a clutch release bearing? Should that of been changed when the kit was fitted?

Bill, do you know what power/torque my setup is rated at? I tried to find out ages ago, and the nearest match suggested it was only rated at 250bhp! Is that right?

i doubt it ben. a vr6 with a bolt on supercharger kit will do 250bhp and not only that but the helix clutch is higher spec im sure.
 
not bad....would they do a deal on 2??? i might get mine when u get urs.

I've got the same clutch with new VAG release bearing on my VR6 - I find it a bit heavier but more positive than stock VR6 clutch but no juddering? Same comments from another Corrado VR6 owner who drove mine.

Mine juddered when its release bearing got gummed up with dust/grease etc.... When the bearing was replaced and all cleaned up when I had the ATB diff fitted, it went away again. Dust build up.. Mines rattling now tho...prolly knackered again. :rolleyes: did you ask for it to be replaced? is it on your bill?

Helix will run a mile when you ask for firm figures.. static torque vs actual installed torque being something I never got a straight answer for. Only my own experience of it has confirmed no matter what I throw at it, there is zero slip.
G60 will be lighter, but will it live with IHI...? dunno :dunno: I went for Helix for fit and forget peace of mind.

Depends on use, so road use, probably fine.. Race it or drag it down the 1/4 mile? Hmmmm. who knows. :confused:

So to stop the juddering I need a new release bearing? Is that a new design release bearing or just a new one of what I already have?

Are they expensive? Guess its a lot of work to get a garage to fit it?

Also, when mines cold the clutch rattles like mad. Really really rattles loads. Push the clutch down and it stops, lift off and it rattles again. The rattling stops once its warm though. Is this normal?

Exactly like mine is... rattle city..
box on mine sounds like a bag of nails too tho..

dip the clutch (load the bearing) and I bet its quiet tho.
Not aware of new bearing.. but maybe the VR6 setup is just better made..

Cheers for the link Bill. I will be going Peloquin but i aint sure on clutch yet as its a daily driver for the wife so it needs to be useable. And i would rather the clutch slipped or broke than damage summit futher down the line. I will prob go for a low spec g60 with lightened flywheel. I dont do many trackdays (will do 2-3 next year) and wont be doing any 1/4 miles but i fancy some v-max fun but there from a rolling start i hear so should be less stressful (I hope) than the before mentioned stuff. I would think this clutch would be the same as what jabba use/ reccomend for ihi use so i will prob go this route and see what happens.

It was Vince who did mine, just has Helix clutch & VAG release bearing on the bill.

No rattles at idle here (other than the normal engine ones), but that's with standard, non-lightened flywheel.
 
RE: American clutches, Myself and Adam are looking at upgrade clutches so either do a GB on american ones or Uk parts??
 
carriage may prove expensive... clutch and flywheels being heavy things.
Exchange rate being fabvourable tho..
