hi people, im brand new to Seat, YA!!!

im still waiting to collect my 2004 ibiza cupra r tdi. im not wanting to spend a fortune on it as im in process for saving for a deposit. however, im a well up for getting a little extra power & torque from the engine...

my question is, with a basic map will my clutch fair up ok?

i've grown out of my hooligan days, and so wont be thrashing the clutch to pieces but would like it there when i want a little blast...

any suggest to all you experts out there??

ta, mark

Really hard to say m8.

My Leon was remapped with a basic stage1 @ 18k and the clutch slipped after 1k on the remap. This was on a non-agressive map too.....pot luck I guess.

Others have done 50k+ on a standard clutch.......

You should be ok

Lots of People run standard clutches for a while but as said above its pot look

Personally i wud stick with Standard one until it goes and then get an uprated one,Might aswell get your moneys worth outta the standard one .

as chris said, some maps such as stage 1 peg back torque within the limits to try and preserve the clutch but it's pot luck. Also it's a ibiza Cupra tdi, not Cupra r tdi ;)

Two ways of doing this with different possible outcomes.

Try your luck with the standard clutch and go for a less agressive map. If the clutch slips then kick a wall and get saving!

or

Get a uprated clutch to start with and take advantage of it with a more agressive map knowing that the clutch *should* be able to cope with the TDI torque.

I paid about £700 for my uprated clutch inc VAT/Fitting. Luckily my motor has low mileage so I was advised that the flywheel was in good condition. I think you can add another £200 for a new flywheel if it was needed.

Modding is not a cheap game is it, SCN will make me homeless one day, but least I can be proud of my car.

If its advice you want then I'd go for a SACHS organic clutch and a full fat map. Job done.

I think that the probable outcome on a restricted map is that it usually kills the clutch quite quickly. Then you'll have an uprated clutch and not the full map that goes with it.

It is a lottery on the clutch but it appears that more often than not it'll go.

Your call.

well thanks for your advice guys. i was thinking the latter. if the clutch wouldn't last long there is no point going for a basic map if im then gonna have to uprate the clutch a few months down the line...:(

My Golf should have the same clutch set up as the Ibiza Cupra TDi. It's done 118k on an aggressive map which is right on the 300lb/ft clutch limit, with the previous owner thrashing the hell outta it constantly. Pot luck as said. Only good thing is I can switch to the economy map or even factory again within minutes if need be.
A remap changes the car for the better IMO. It's how the car SHOULD have been in the first place, and with the Ibiza being more nimble and agile, I bet it's a hoot to blast about country roads in, especially mapped.

My car (Cupra TDI) had 48k when I had an excellent map done by p-tourque. It doesn't smoke and the torque is around 370ft (can't fault Will at all). The clutch does slip if i'm not careful but I can drive round no problem. I do want a new clutch so I can take full advantage of the power.

370ftlb, say by to standard turbo and clutch straight away

think you got your figures wrong mate, more like 307ftlb maybe?

That sounds good! What happens if the DMF is scorched? I don’t get bad slip but it does slip very occasionally. Got some money coming just in time for summer.

more like 270ftlb lol :D

That's on the very low side of the so called 300lb/ft limit. And its slipping.

The Seat's torque peaked at 323/7 (can't rember which) lb/ft, 55lbs difference compared to a restricted stage 1.

A proper clutch is the way to go in my opinion.

Matey with the Golf is extremely lucky being right on the limit and all. For the most, that sort of map would have the clutch screaming for mercy on the way back home from the map. Thrashing the car would help the clutch in this case as its the labouring and low rev changes that'll cause all the grief i.e. sub 2k revs, boot, slip.......

Just summarising the countless post map and no new clutch comments.

But hey its your money. Right tools for the job imo.
