I've just traded in a 55 reg petrol Cupra for a new Ecomotive because i have a new job that means drivin 100 miles a day. It'll save me over £50 a week just in petrol costs!

I sometimes think people buy Diesel and they think they're saving money.. They aren't actually. Yeah, some of us do, some of us do not, at all.

Whats the Price different per L at the pumps atm between norm unleaded and norm diesel?

Think about this, I have done sums before but forget.. The extra MPG you get wil be soaked up by maybe, 12p extra every litre?

In short, people who used to do about 10k in a petrol, buys a diesel, and thinks, ahh great, loads more MPG. However if you only do 10k, you are not actually making a saving because you aren't doing anough miles.

People who do high miles will deffinatlky benefit from a Diesel, though low/aervage, milers, as they say, stick with a good petrol.

We're talking roughly the equivilent petrol/Diesel versions. OBV 3.0 V8 is going to cost more than a 1.4TDI. Thats a no brainer,

But say a 08' 1.9 TDI vs. 08' 1.4/1.6.. and you do little miles.. (even 15k will just about get you money back) you aint going to save.. likely to loose.

You are spot on there. In the year I have had the car (FR 1.8T) I have done 18000 miles, so I would have benefited from a diesel...

Some people just have to think about what they are actually doing in terms of saving money.

Don't change your car, change your driving style and do the maths. And if a new car is going to cost more to buy... well.. some people are just dim.

EDIT: Just like my sister, she is just dim. She's at Oxford training to be a doctor, but she is stubburn, and if she don't know much about a subjext, apart from what people drill into her head (Diesels and Money in this case) she just wont get it.

"My car does lots of miles to a tank."

:p

On the other hand she is also a smart ass.

Sometimes it isn't just down to the price of fuel and mpg, I like the way a diesel pulls with lots of low end torque. In an equivalent petrol you won't accelerate as quick as the diesel and get the same economy, I swopped a 1.6 16v petrol to a 1.9 tdi 130 and there is no way the petrol would accelerate at low revs the way the diesel does, its quick effortless motoring with 50+ mpg (could never match in a small engined petrol)

With these ecomotives, if i were to buy one and remap it, bigger turbo, big intercooler, big brakes and alloys would the no road tax and no conjestion charge still count?

It'll still be an ecomotive on the log book.................. just pimped so that it could give all the green lovers the mid digit.
