Ibiza Tdi Fr - Which Tyres?

Hi guys i have pirellis on at the moment - 205/40/17, I have just got the car and the tyres will need replacing in a few 1000 miles.

Are the perillis the best tyre for this car, if not what tyres would you recommend?

I used to run Federal ss595's on my last car but i think they may be a bit soft as i tend to work the tyres a bit.

Any help would be appreciated

Most of the opinion on here,seems to be either.
1) Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3.
2)Toyo Proxes T1-R.
3)Continental Conti Sportcontact 2.

You could fit cheapies,but you'll regret it come the rainy season!.

Mine are up for replacing tomorrow and I'm changing from the Pirelli P Zero Nero's that were on the car from the showroom and I'm going to try the Yokohama Parada Spec 2, I'm hoping they will be a good balance between grip and life as I don't think the Pirelli's are that great at either.

ive got some 215 by 40 avons on the front of mine, about 60quid each, theyre good in all weathers tbf.

But i mean driving a diesel means i dont blast it off the line either, but they hold out well running about 160bhp and 260lb/ft torque

When I had them fitted the tyre fitter said he had no idea why I was having them fitted as they wear out too quickly.

Personally I've not found this to be the case yet.

However when the roads are wet and worse still when just damp I've found the spec 2's somewhat sphincter tightening

ive got toyo t1-r's on mine, they reduced the wheel spin LOADS over the standard tyres but if you have got the money got for goodyear f1's mate there the daddies lol

I have Goodyear F1's and there spot on, really good in the wet as well.

Parada's are meant to be pony in the damp/wet as already mentioned which is really when you want your tyres to perform at their best.

I've got some Kumho KU31's on the front of mine at the moment and they are good in the wet and dry, seem to be wearing well (only had them on for 8k miles or so) and are pretty cheap. I'd say they are a good compromise between grip/wear and cost.

The parada's are hopeless in the wet, and my last front tyres lasted 5000 miles, but its worth it just for the dry weather performance. Their just outstanding in the dry ( they also look fairly good aswell)

Red Rum is spot on about the paradas!
Im going to go for toyo proxes next i think, used them on other cars including a 5ltr TVR and they were good in all conditions and lasted a long time good compromise i think with the price aswell (about £70 a corner)

i had Goodyear F1 GSD3's on my missus 130PD FR and they were pants! Falken FK452, £50 each from camskill, cheap and wipe the floor with cr@ppy good year GSD3's..

Eagle F1's are really good tyres, but they are being discontinued to be replaced by the asymetricos, pretty expensive as well. I've currently got some Falken 912's on mine, 60 quid each, really good dry grip the wet grip leaves a bit to be desired though.

Not really had chance to try them in the wet, it's been pretty dry since I had them put on, not really pushed them in the dry yet either, but the guy who fitted them said when they get warm they are mega grippy, just hope this is the case when I need them most.

i just bought a set of 4 Toyo Proxes off ebay from ebay shop 'Wheelbase'. £229 delivered! Ordered them 11pm Tuesday night and they arived yesterday evening. Cant fault it.

you sure you didnt get a set of the cheap chinese knock offs that were making the rounds. I have used those falkens and they arent a patch on the GSD3's.

Infact the only other tire I would fit if I couldnt get hold of the GSD3's is the toyo t1-r's.

Dont know why some people buy tyres other than the toyo's or F1's whilst paying just as much money.

Good thread for me currently looking to buy a whole set of tyres.
Does anyone know if it is really dogey to have my spare with different wheel size and obviously tyre profile? Or is it better to use the spare vRS wheel which I'm lucky to have but again this will have a different profile tyre on it the the others but at leasst be the same size?
I know space saver wheels are used so surely using either doesn't matter too much?

There are a few twisties on the way home from work and I decided to push them a little and they did hold up quite well, no screeching and they felt like they would keep on gripping, first impressions are that they are certainly more grippy than the P Zero's which were on the car.

Yeah that's very true, I will make sure I'm careful in the wet then.
