Just registered so this is my first post here.

I'm new to SEAT ownership (In fact I don't quite own one yet) but yesterday I went out for a test drive in an Ibiza FR (130TDi) and fell in love immediately. So I've put down a deposit and pick it up next Saturday.

I wanted to post a pic but can't 'till I've made 15 posts.

Although I'm not as accustomed to performance hatch ownership as the lingl9z I do think that you wont be disappointed with it.
I managed to get the dealer down to £8145 for the one above with a part ex of £150 for my rusty old '94 Civic LSi with 90,000 miles on the clock and a missfire.

The Ibiza has got 20,800 miles on the clock and from the reserch I've done, it returns 50MPG's easily, it's in insurance group 8 (which is cheaper than my old Civic) and the performance figures are pretty impressive as standard @ 128Bhp with 229lb ft Torque.

Now I can't wait till next Saturday when I collect the car, begin enjoying ownership of my lil' Ibiza and becomin a part of the community here.

Hehe thanks for that mate, very helpful indeed seem's the TDI's are pretty awesome must be a lot better than the civic as they have pretty much no torque! (vtec ones anyways)

and with a quick remap thats up to around 175ish and 310lbft.
push the boat out and your looking at 240bhp and 380lbft

Remap from performance torque, its where im planning to go, and they seem to get alot of praise on here.

All of the above has made it clear on what I should get, either the Cupra/Ibiza pd130 TDI!

Is there any form of rep button on here for the helpful post's?

Thanks again

Rich.

I got the diesel 160 about 6 months ago and I'm really liking it. The performance is fantastic standard, probably on par with your GTi, but after a remap, it is quite a bit quicker. 40-80 in 4th gear takes no time so it's perfect for overtaking. I came from a Clio 172 Cup and a 330ci and it's quicker than them.

Insurance is £200 for me, £120 tax, >40mpg = cheap to run!

120 tax for a year? thats really good think I'm paying £210 tax at the moment and around £700 insurance I'm nearly 22 so not too bad of a price!

Thanks chap!

Yep £120 is right for the tax, I've just taxed the one I haven't got yet for a year.

I may be biassed and full of new toy syndrome, but this car just seems to tick all of the right boxes for me, being fast, fun and frugal it seems perfect.

During the test drive (while my missus was driving) I climbed around and sat in the back and even with the front seat back in my 5'11" driving position there was enough room for me to sit behind......snug I must admit but certainly an improvement on my Civic.

I probably won't bother myself with tuning, or re-mapping etc, as I feel it's plenty quick enough anyway so the last thing I wanna do is raise my insurance premium.

As an Ambo man I feel that good driving and forward vision is worth more than 100bhp anyway, I regularly have to drive a bloody great van at speeds and have exemptions from the law to do so, many car drivers have tried to race me and many have failed.

Like many other things in life it's not always what you've got.....it's how you use it. (As I keep tellin' the missus LOL)

Yeah thats very true, I seem to get a lot of people looking at the GTI-6 badges on the side of my car and then revving up at the traffic lights, I feel I'm past that stage, it's something I would have done when I was 17 maybe! I just need a comfy, reliable, reasonably fast and economical car (comapared to the 18mpg I get at the moment.)

The cupra tdi isnt comfy, the suspension is quite firm, and 40 profile tyres. The leon would be more up your street if you want comfort.

Great Kahn is right mate. i have the Ibiza mk4 cupra and it is quite a harsh ride. ive read alot of review that say the FR ibiza is a better all rounder for daily driving with its softer suspension. My cupra is pretty quick i used to have a ford focus st170 and id say the cupra is quicker.

you wont be disappointed with an Ibiza mate

yeah the ride isn't that comfy. I've done the same as you, i went from a Audi S3 with 270bhp to a Cupra Tdi with 160bhp. Although i was getting 25mpg in the s3, but with the miles i do in a week its just pointless me keeping it. Had to put 60quid in a week, thats like 240quid in a month. Thats alot of money! whereas i now only put in 20quid in a week. cheaper tax (not by much though) and insurance was more for me on cupra, which cought me off guard i must admitt. But i reckon the savings in fuel covers it. Just need to remap it now, and i then i'll feel it was worth while.

Although the Cupra doesn't feel that much slower standard in my opinion. Just daren't let anyone drive the s3 to find out how much faster it actually is. lol

Thanks for the replys guys, seems very useful indeed, I think it'll make life much easier knowing that, I've been through far to many different cars about 6 in the last 6 months lol, the starlet was easily the fastest, 800kg with 160ish bhp the bmw 2.5 3 series just drank far too much fuel for my liking and was big lazy and boring, the MX5 was brilliant was set to turbo it and make it a drift car... seem's a women backing out of her drive way disagree'd and basically wrote my car off! so I got the 306 GTI-6 which is good for what it is but it's french so you can imagine the build quality! I'm sure none of the seat's will be too harsh and uncomfy as most of my cars lol I think a leon or ibiza 130pd will suit me pretty well, possibly even the 1.820vT :D

the ride in the Cupra isn't that bad; we drove to and around the south of France in mine and I never felt uncomfortable or tired, even after 4+ hours of driving

i have a mk4 pd130 Fr tdi ....not the cupra tdi but got it remapped to 177bhp and 300lbs torque...similar in looks and performance now...and is a step up from the sport models..

Love the looks and the power is always there when you want it...

also a lot of cheapish mods can be achieved on them so improve stance and handling..

Cheers buddy what sort of price range are the early MK4's?

i would try get a facelift mk4 (late 56 i think)....a lot of people who have the pre-facelift on here and the cupra or fr bumpers..

can pick up a pre-facelift mk4 quite cheap now...depending on milage...i have seen tdi sports with good mileage for a few thousand...

what sort of budget you looking at?

For that sorta cash you'd be looking at pre-facelifts mate. I paid £3.9k for my 04 FR TDI with FSH and 1 owner with 120k on the clock.
