Identify a part

Hi guys, was installing a temp sender and found a loose part on within the engine, not too sure what it is and where it goes, it looks like a top to a hot water bottle and has the VW sign on it. Any ideas?

Is there a hole in the top of the gearbox where the bung can go?

That funny i found the same part in my engine bay but could'nt find were it came from

Found this number on it:
02M 301 115 B
PW0 >CR<

The gear box is on the side of the engine.

left, right, top or bottom? near the battery or airbox?

look at the engine from the front of the car and it comes off the right hand side of it.

all i see is a whole load of pipes and no holes! do i need to look from undernieth?

i dont think it will be underneath or the part would have fallen on the road, like i said i looked all over and could 'nt find were it came from, the gear box is on the right hand side as you look at the engine most of it is under the air filter.
