This is the only shot I have for now.

wished mine looked like that, damn thats clean!

Right well!! Little update for everyone, spoke to my insurance broker today, basically got told i can go upto 160bhp for an additional 25% to the policy and £100 on my excess, so im happy with that!

Question is, do i go 150bhp V5 and have something to flash about at ED38, or play it safe and normal with the 150bhp 20VT engine (AUQ?).

Has anyone got an opinion on the 150bhp V5, i.e how they drive, power delivery and also the engine code/gearbox code to look out for.

Initially cost estimates show £1500 job done (engine, ancillaries), then insurance costs on top, all in all a "cheaper" alternative to a new car and a nice little project to do as i believe its never been done.

Thanks

Jimski

Its all down to insurance fella, they can quote over the phone for 40-60bhp mods (which is what an engine conversion is classed as) or a r eferral for more, like in my case, its a 70bhp mod!!

She gave me the impression that they would either charge me a hell of a lot more, or it could be similar, just have to wait. So to not count my chickens so to spoke, its 150bhp v5 for now!

Of course its up to you. But I'd rather have a 170bhp Toledo.

Get rid of the Leon and do that, you will get a cheap nice Toledo, 170bhp and cheaper insurance.

My leon is at a stage where its how i want it both mechanically and looks, to sell would mean a massive loss, V5 in a leon has never been done, so......il see

I have a 150 v5, and got it as it was comparitively cheap compared to other Toledo i were looking at. The drive is great, all the power comes in really low in the rev range. The engine is pretty quiet for normal driving, but has a nice note when you put ya foot down a bit. I would say maybe go for putting a 170 v5 or the 1.8t as it can be tuned to much more than 150 or 170bhp.

Right well, regardless of whether i should get a 150bhp/170bhp my list is as follows;

Engine and all ancillaries (g/box etc)
Loom
Clocks
ECU (s)
Suspension
Brakes
Subframe

My intention is to get the whole front end, including subframe with susp/brakes attached.

Technical question, did the v5 150 have traction control?

Jimski

The engine's not mounted to the subframe, why would you bother swapping that.

just unbolt, remove & replace.

first job rip off the bumper/lights and front panel assy will make it a hell of a lot easier

when my 'next' gearbox/clutch is due i know i am
