In desperate need of help.

Heya everyone,
I’ve got a Seat Ibiza TSI 2015 1.2.
Been in the garage for two months now,
Can’t seem to find the issue, it’s misfiring.
I’ve had the whole lot done, timing chain, coils, ignition leads you name it.
But it’s still misfiring, the guy at the garage can’t work out what the issue is and has tried so many ignition leads(he thinks that’s the issue) the only other issue I’ve had with the car BEFORE having it all renewed was my fuel gauge wasn’t accurate of when I was filling up. If I knew my tank was nearly empty I’d go to the petrol station and within 5 seconds of using the pump it would click off basically saying I can’t fit more fuel. But if I messed with it I’d manage to get it working, I never had issues with anything else than this before I had it all new. Which I never had misfiring only until the garage did my car. Could it be fuel that’s making it misfire? He says on his reader when he plugs my car in he says nothing shows up. It’s frustrating, spending nearly £2k on it and the issue is still happening. Anyone experienced this? Thank you, all advise would be appreciated!! As I want my car back!! Thank you~~

It wasn’t misfiring before the work got done on it. I had the timing chain done as it’s hit just over 90,000 miles. The misfiring started after the work was done.

Then it must be something the repairing garage has done. Did they notice the misfire or you?

i did, then I returned it the same day. Then had it back a week later, drove it for about 2/3 weeks.. then it started again. Honestly I wanna just scrap the car I’m sick of this issue. So it wouldn’t be anything to do with the fuel? Even though my electric fuel gauge dial is sometimes dodgy along with the filling tank? My garage said he order genuine SEAT ignition leads for it from Germany. He never tried any of the regular suppliers like Bosch, NGK, Bremi etc. but now I’ve told him to order Bosch. But in my gut I know it’ll have the same issue.

Nothing no or on the reader box when he plugs my car in. But surely having two different sets on ignition leads us strange though? One set not working yes but two.. that’s why I was thinking maybe there’s an issue with fuel passing through causing the misfiring.

A misfire can be caused by many things:

Poor spark (plugs, HT leads, coil pack)
Poor fuelling (fuel quality, injectors)
Poor compression (rings, valves)
Incorrect timing

But to name a few.

If the issue wasn't present before then it could be a result of the work carried out, namely the timing chain. The timing and areas surrounding the area worked on need checking and confirming there are no issues.

Maybe it could be the fuel injectors, because when I drive incredibly slow and do really steady gear changes and slow pressing off the clutch it doesn’t misfire. But if I put my foot down it does. That could be it, I’ll have to take a further look into it.

I'd have the garage make sure that the engine timing is 100% correct before they throw any other parts at it.

Thank you so much James, I appreciate your time and advice! I’ll call him again in the morning and bring up some of this. It’s a shame I’ve been using his services for three years no problems. After scaring me into get a timing chain, it’s resulted in this issue! Thank you again!

Was there any noise from the chain before you had it replaced? The chain issues were long dealt with by 2015, so it's doubtful yours would have had an issue.

It sounds like an issue the garage needs to resolve, and without charging you in the process unless they can 100% prove it's not their doing.
