interesting, R32 owners seem worried over LCR

Too right

why anyone would spend that kind of money on a R32 or a S3 is beyond me

Because they are well built, quality made, quick cars and hold their value reasonably well even in this current climate

Just because you choose not to spend that amount of money on cars within that price bracket does not mean it isn't right

If I had the option of buying a car in that price bracket I would snap up the new Audi S3. Lovely cars and not just based on speed but I prefer the german engineered interior over an Evo etc

It does make me chuckle how some people jump on the band wagon and start hating on a car because its from a different brand, or its a competitor of their car without having any real experience of that particular car. Please note that i said "some", there are some well put arguments both for and against, i just feel some are knee jerk reactions rather than an informed unbiased arguments, I most confess I've been guilty of this in the past aswell.

I've been a member of a few car forums over the years and I've come across many people who will never stray from their preferred brand, regardless of whether they're are cheaper, better, faster equivalents. I feel this is very short sighted and rather blinkered, I'm not saying that is the case here, it's just an observation I've made.

I'm a car enthusiast through and through and I've made a pact with my self that i will try every type and brand of car that i possibly can.

So I presume that is a fact you have stated? or is it a personal opinion/assumption?

If you are going to start stating things like that, then please back it up with facts i.e. a survey identifying the average age of an R32 driver, or others like myself will just pull apart statements like that

No one else in this thread has had resort to naming or labelling people in a certain car as a "tw@t" as you put it. Why do you feel it necessary to bring the conversation to this level?

Perhaps when you can constructively write a sentence, states facts over assumptions and your statements dont come across as being written by a 5yr old then let us know, and you can join the grown ups in a discussion

Your points come across as pointless and childish

The R32 is in a league of it's own though, Gooner. Anyone wanting turbocharged performance from a hatchback will goes and buy, LCR, LC, Focus RS, Focus ST, Mergane RS, Golf GTi/Ed30 etc, the R32 appeals to a different sub-market completely within the hot hatch sector.

Think about it, you want a fairly fast hatchback that's 4wd and handles superbly, where do you go? You want a luxury hatchback, where do you go? You want the grunt of a V6 but you don't want a tourer or the impracticality of a roadster like the 350Z, where do you go?

You need to remember that 90% of the population do not modify their vehicles and will look for a nice package out of the box. An individual who wants to tune will always look cheaper and turbocharged but a raw and noisy car isn't for everybody.

You can apply the same arguement to the LCR...why buy a £5k LCR with high mileage and tune it when you can buy a 1990 Ford Escort RST for £800, bolt a big Garrett on it, strip it out and upgrades components to put the power down, then stick 320bhp through it's wheels for no more than £3k? You've saved at least £2k then and that little RS will eat almost anything.

This is always a 'biting' thread isnt it?

I agree I'm an enthusiast ive owned and Alfa haha, but out of the 7 cars I have owned the R32 was the best hands down,

I paid 15k for it, fully loaded bar the Recaro buckets when I was looking I drove the following - E36 M3, 130msport, original S3 and the 147 GTA. I was all set on the 130M when I saw an R32 and thought why not, after the test drive that was it.

I would put money on the majority of people never driven one and just came against one on a motorway.

DRIVE ONE its superb, you forget about the 250bhp and weight once your just enjoying it

This whole thread is about opinions I my self have labeled the r32 drivers as smug w@nkers because the majority of them are you can put across you opinion by all means but you talk about labling the r32 drivers when you have just labled gooner so what if his words are childish he still makes a good point you can more power and better handling not to mention looks and sound for 10K just because he words it in a different way don't make it any Less of a fact and IMO it's the older generation who have r32s as they are stupidly exspencive to run

I have drive two and yes there nice to drive but IMO you can't get a feel for the road as much as the leon or bmws or my dad passat r36 witch is a beast at 300 bhp standard

There are opinions and then there are opinions, but its the way they are constructed, written and put across on places like this, which is how they are conveyed (perhaps a learning point for some)

For a debate/conversation like this I wouldnt start labelling a person a "tw@t" because of their chosen marque of car. If they want to splash out 20-30k on a car then thats their choice

This thread started out on which was quicker onto build quality and the strengths and weaknesses of the LCR and R32, and at that point no one seemed to be labelling or name calling the "said" driver for choosing which model to drive, sadly the discussion as dropped to this level

Perhaps back on topic, personally I think VW's are better built (agreed by most) but what annoys me is IMO they are still way over priced despite the superior build quality...not to mention Audi's:)

The pricing does not put me off though as I know I will have a quality made vehicle, but there comes a point still for a 3-5 door car, for the salary I earn (which is average and nothing special) that top of the range R32's etc are a little out of my league. Does not stop me admiring them though and if I was in the market for an R32 (2nd hand) I would still choose to stump up the cash over an LCR, as generally I have been through the tuning scene and I want something fast but OEM (well those that know me I would still do a couple of things to it but othing silly)

Summing things up, each car has its strengths and weaknesses, but as JamJay phrased it well, most dont tune their cars and want something quick out of the box. In this comparison the R32 edges ahead, but it all depends what you want from the car at the end of the day

You seem to have a very strong opinion on their abilities for someone who has never drove one. Personally I save my judgment on a car until I’ve at least been a passenger in one; you never know you might like it! ;)

R32
Evo
Skyline
Scooby

who would even consider the r32 ooo because its comfy maybe when i get to 50 as thats the normal age for them i mite consider one when i loose my mind lol

and people say the r32 sounds good ever heard a scoob or evo at tick over makes the r32 sound like an electric car

As great as they sound (I personally love the sounds of evo's and scoobs), not everyone wants a fire spitting rally car sound! The R32 with a sport exhaust sounds "classy", evo's and scoobs certainly don’t! Different people want different things from cars, some might want a weekend toy, for this the evo and scoobs are better suited as they cost considerably more to own, some people want an all rounder as they use it to drive to and from work etc… for this the R32 may be the better car. Basically what I'm trying to say is... its horses for courses!

why everybody love the r32 when we have lcrs mapp it say goodbye and save £5k now who would look like a tw@t ;)

As said before it’s not always about straight line pace and value for money, some people value quality of interior, engine sound and driver involvement over economy and torque figures.

Yeah the evo's, skylines, and scobbe's can all be had for around 10K. Personally for that sort of money I’d also be looking at E46 M3's or a Z3M bread vans, but they're a very different type of car so in my opinion they cant and shouldn’t be compared like for like.

Good thread, enjoyed the read.
I think its fair to say many LCR owners do start to have rose tinted glasses though.

Can't really compare the LCR to R32 though, very different animals. Just because a 'sorted' LCR will outperform an R32 in some areas does not make it a better car.

I'd have the R32 in a snip. Well a MK5 variant (i know thats not what we are talking about).
