It doesnt come on when the driver's door opens. Also, the car likes to lock itself when the drivers door is open - would it be a switch/ sensor?

I think so, because I have the same problem. Also the alarm for headlights on doesn`t work. Anybody with a idea?

I have a problem with the boot locking and unlocking when it pleases too, passenger door isn't too bad but likes to play 'child locks'

Yep, the drivers door open switch is faulty, the alarm thinks you have unlocked the car and then forgot about it and went to make a cuppa, so after a min or two it re-locks itself because it thinks you are indoors supping tea whilst it sit's there unlocked.

The door open switch is located on the lock mechanism inside the door.

My lights on buzzer stopped working last week and then I was hoovering the inside of the car at the weekend and I jumped out of my skin when a car alarm went off. I looked around at the neighbours cars before I realised it was mine  I turned it off but it did it again and this time I heard the doors autolock before it went off. I had to put the key in the ignition while I cleaned the car.

Is the switch on the hinge end or the lock end of the door and is it easy to get to?

my interior light doesnt work either when the door are open, it only comes on when i unlock the car.

As Nath said, your problem is a dead door switch.

I had the same problem but got it replaced on the last day of the warrenty

Guessing a bit here, or trying to remember what has been said in the past, but I think that unfortunately you will need a complete driver's door lock assembly (I hope I'm wrong though!).

Alot of these issues could be fixed using vagcom, they will probably just need enabled/disabled to your own preferences tbh

I think in this thread, most if not all the problems stem from the cars having a faulty driver's door switch - and VCDS can not fix that!
