Intermittent Boot Light Issue

The light inside the boot of my Leon has been intermittently working. I noticed upon opening the boot that the light was off so assumed a blown bulb. I bought some replacement bulbs but before I could fit them, the light started working again. Then I noticed it wasn't working again and so on.

I know the bulb hasn't blown as a bulb blowing is final and doesn't come back.

I wondered if the boot open sensor was faulty, but the boot open symbol comes up on the dash, so assuming its the same sensor it cannot be that.

Any ideas what the likely cause could be or any previous experience of a similar issue?

Many thanks,

James

Had the same fault on my 2018 Ibiza boot light would operate for 3 weeks or so, then stop.

Try lubricating (WD40) the lock mechanism on the tailgate on both sides and gently work the lubricant in. I think the switch doesn't operate correctly until there is full freedom of movement in the latch mechanism which stops the full retraction of the lock when the tailgate is opened. WD 40 will also improve electrical contact.

This fixed mine, bulb was fine but boot light was not always working. Cheaper than replacing the lock!
