Not really as the split will open more under boost the ecu reads this and throws up error code and car goes in safe/limp mode. Switching engine off/on resets the code until it happens again. Easiest way to test for leak is to get some soapy water in a spray bottle, start engine and spray hoses with the water and look for bubbles. Or see if any codes come up on vag-com, the code normally gives you an area where the leak could be. Failing that take it to your nearest vag specialist and ask them to pressure test the car for boost leak

Sounds like it mate. Best get it to specialist to be on safe side, also they will be able to clear and fault codes on the ecu

This must be the numer one fault on the 1.8 turbo engines...

i had this too with fault code pressure drop between turbo and intake...

i only happend the first start of the day when it was cold after that it works just fine.

Since the temperature outside got higher i have no problems anymore.

Stil very strange the garage checked my car : hoses and such for 3 times and they still could not find anything

I had that too, was the breather hose under the manifold and the one on the top of the engine. Replaced them, also did the MAF at the same time along with the N249 bypass and a forge 007. Since its been running sweet with no more fault codes or limp mode :)

i take it i need a new dv?

thats what i said, the number one fault on these engines...

mine also gave that reading !

it could be everyhose that is connected to your DV and to ur inlet of the Turbo...

But you could start with replacing the DV if u have the bosch one still fitted...

Mine does this every now and again, but by the time ive reached 3rd, its cured itself and its only when ive started it up from cold. not really bothered me as if i let the engine warm up before i take it out its fine :)

Fix for loss of power – worked for my car

Hi,

I had the same problem on my Ibiza Cupra 1.8t 180bhp (chipped to 235bhp) in 3rd and 4th Gear, I got the loss of power every time.

Reading what others have done I had the oil breather pip cleaned out and changed the plugs and this has solved the problem.

Worth a try as a cheep fix, rather than the cost of a new MAF (that was next on the list!)
