Hi All

Ever since I upgraded from an iPhone 4 (30 pin) to a iPhone 5 (lightning) I've been after a new cable to play music & control the phone to replace the one I had for the old iPhone but I haven't found one available, until recently.

I wondered if anyone has bought one of these...

If so does it work probably i.e. can you play music and control the phone?

Cheers

Yeah, I was hoping that someone might have bought one on here but it doesn't look like anyone has.

Looks like I might have to be the one to try it out :)

Well it arrived... and it doesn't work :(

Just charges the iPhone and plays music from the 3.5mm headphone socket. You can't control it via the Media System.

Hopefully someone will find one that does work, if you do let me know ;)

It won't work cos it hasn't got the electronic circuitry bit required for MDI. Why don't you just use the standard cable with a lightning adapter on it?

Yeah. Not sure of the necessity of the headphone jack on it though. In theory you shouldn't need it cos audio goes through the lightning connector

Also consider if your phone has a case on it, it it does then the chances are that you'd be better with a 'cable' rather than just an adapter as it probably will probably get blocked by the case.

I.e something like this http://bit.ly/1fcsCPf

Rather than this http://bit.ly/14qJmL8

The only think that I was worried about s all the ones that do not have a headphone jack always state "Audio & Video output not supported" in the description, including the ones you sent links too. Do you think they will still work OK?

Hmm not thought about that, sorry.

I have the proper apple adapter and as you would expect, that works fine for audio.

In my car I have a micro USB cable and one of these: http://bit.ly/1jnBzVV

It works fine for charging and also supports audio through the likes of ken wood car stereos with iPod support.

The others may be worth a try for a few quid?

I always find with Apple that you buy **** pay twice I would personally take the hit and get a genuine cable...

That micro usb to lighting is a great idea! good find!

Indeed. With iOS 7 they've incorporated the whole 'this accessory is not supported' to things that it doesn't like. It'll still work but you get that message a few times.

Yeah the micro USB to lightning adapter is so handy. I use it in my car, at my girlfriends, friends houses and cars. Everyone either owns an iPhone and therefore has a lightning cable, or has an android phone and therefore micro USB. It's that small I just carry it in my wallet everywhere :)

It's also a really cheap way to get a lightning cable that works :)
