I didn't think they made cars without galvanising them any more, thats why you get 6 year anit-corrosion warranties.

Leon is fully galvanised and if its registered from Jan 2000 onwards it would come with 3 year paint warranty opposed to 1 year for other older models and I think it 12 years anti-perforation warranty!

I have a chip on the edge of my arch, through to metal. About 3 mm across, which I ve had for ages, waiting to find a decent bodyshop.. No sign of rust at all, all that has happened is that the metal has tarnished a little. The paint may be shite, but the metal is made of sterner stuff!

thanks. Just asking since I believe the Civic Type R isn't so wasn't sure whether the Leon has saved on costs as well.

so if you have stone chips that have started to show rust then i can claim that on my warrenty then yeah

No, because a stone chip is not a paint/body fault - you can spot it and do something about it (i.e. touch it in).

Correct. In fact, if I remember rightly, SDeat do a yearly paint inspection, so if you have chips, you have to have them done to protect the paint warranty. Please correct me if I am wrong.:D

Just pray you dont ever have to try to get anything done under the warranty.

I tried about 3yr ago on my 4yr old MK4 Golf, it was rusting at both front corners of the roof - i had it blamed on my cleaning method (Zymol FFS!), then they said i might not be washing it all off (!??), and then unbelievably the paint 'technician' said it was stone chips, on BOTH front corners at exactly the same point, unbelievable.

So i dont really think its worth the paper its written on to be honest.... unless you get a ruddy big rust hole through a body panel i think youll struggle!
