I called into the local dealer today to pick up some oil to top up my car. Ive a ibiza fr tdi. Told the guy my car details and he gave me a litre of castrol SLX Longlife 2 506/01. (0W-30) I asked him if this is the correct oil cos i thought this is for the variable servicing, but he said no, the fr uses the 506/01. Just wondering if this is fine to put into my fr before i use it?

I read that the economy might increase somewhere, but when the guy said that the fr uses the 506.01 alarm bells started ringing!!

Have you checked your manual to see what it specifies ?

AFAIK 505.01 is still the norm for PD 100/130 engines, the 506.01 is generally only used for 150+ bhp motors and for variable servicing.
It shouldn't do any harm though.

when i had my car serviced last month I asked them to use the 506.01 in my car and was told they were using it in all of the TDIs now.

IIRC toXXin (or techie) said they just use the one type, as it saves having multiple types on pump...
