One step ahead of you by the looks of it ;)

The FAQ and guides are two different things, so have a read of both and see what you find. It's a slippery slope though, this modifying business ;)

Also, i've been wandering my eyes through the incredible Leon FAQ on this site and (quite literally bowled over by all this awesome information)

1) CD changer in the glove box? Is this only the older models, cos my glovebox is bloody tiny and the only weakspot about my little car is that it's got something called a "cassette player" which will need changing.

2) Short shift. Anyone give me some details on this? I've read about it, and i'm curious ;)

To answer those points...

1) The CD Changer didn't come on all models. Not even all Cupras had it. If you don't have one you should have a cubby hole on the left hand side of the glove box... well, this is where the changer normally lives, leaving you with the tiny, deeper space on the right hand side.

2) There are a few of these around, but Forge make them for the VAG 6 speed gear box and I have a feeling they are developing one for the other 5 speed boxes. Have a look in the Forge sponsor section for info.
All it does is reduces the throw of the gear change. I can't tell you how this makes it feel in the Leon, as I don't have one yet. But in other cars I've fitted one to it's made a very nice, positive difference and makes it feel much more precise and direct :)

I'll track down that guide then ;) cheers for the heads-up

I'm shocked that something manufactured since 2000 even has a tape player at all, it's like selling a VHS player! There's two sections to the glovebox, one of which currently has the touchup paint cans in it - perhaps it's that?

I'll check out forge's site for the short shift - i'm sure it's just new-car-learning-curve kicking in, even though it's a wonderful change - it does feel like i'm moving more than I need to. Once again, thanks ;)

Christ - those guides are bloody useful. I wanna go out and tweak my car right now - but the lack of sunlight is a pain.

Leons are ace

Hi there,

Im also a new leon owner, Got my 1.4 S, 2003, 13800 miles about 1 month ago and i love it.
I would love one of the sportyer ones but even on the 1.4 my insurance is £1500 as im 18 which according to insurance companies makes me an idiot?

What a great car she is to drive though, comfy, economical, very very cool.

My dad used to have a Scooby and the grip on those is awesome, however when you throw the Leon about a bit, im absolutely amazed at how well it sticks to the road, even in the wet.

Going back to what swiss rebel said about how useful this site is, ill second that. :D

Kind Regards
Dan

Meeeep Meeeeep !!!!!
A little bit of info for the 1.4 and 1.6 Leon owners.

The gearknob is a different fitment to that of the 1.8 20V, Cupra and Cupra R. The only company that offers a gearknob for the 1.4 and 1.6 is MOMO at a cost of £59.

Bear this in mind when you decide to change your gearknob as Pab's guide is for the 1.8 20V, Leon Cupra and Cupra R fitments only. Although removal procedure is the same.

On the 1.4 and 1.6 Leon's. There is an extra plastic shaft over the top of the gearstick. This is for selecting reverse gear and is spring loaded. When you remove the gearknob off there is a large screw with a rubber cover securing the plastic shaft in place. The plastic shaft MUST stay on the gearstick for the gearstick to operate properly and to avoid you selecting reverse by accident.

The gearknob and gaiter also connect to the plastic shaft.

The pic below shows the MOMO gearknob fitted to my 2002 Leon 1.4 S

Also for the glovebox cd changer. This is an optional extra on most Leon models.
On some Leons. The wiring loom for the changer is already there behind the dashboard. One end will have a brown earth wire on and also a black triangular connector. This end goes to the disc changer in the glovebox. The other end of the wiring loom has a small blue mini ISO connector. This goes in the top right section of the plug sockets on the headunit (looking at the headunit from the rear)
The wiring loom is available from SEAT for about £8 inc VAT and is very straightforward to fit.

To fit the disc changer. Remove the trim around the black section of the large pocket in the glovebox (it just unclips). Dont throw it away as you will need it.
The pocket is held in by 2 torx screws each side. Undo them and pull the pocket out.
Get you disc changer and plug the connertor from the wiring loom into the rear of the changer (If your stereo is already turned on you will hear the disc changer start up)
Slide the disc changer into the hole left by the glovebox pocket and secure it using the 2 torx screws which you removed earlier. They go back in the same holes.
Refit the plastic trim back around the cd changer and everythings all done.

Pic below of the cd changer fitted to my 2002 1.4 Leon S. I fitted this shortly after buying the car. The wiring loom also wasn't in mine so it had to be bought from my local SEAT dealer.
Total fitting time is about 30 mins max. Just make sure to earth the wiring loom properly.

Audi replicas.. very popular choice of alloy. They really suit the Leon down to the ground, as well.
