yep, only the TDI FR and Cupra have more torque than the 1.8T Cupra (pre-remap). The turbo on the 1.8T is there to provide the low-end torque and although it doesn't provide as much as the TDI, it lasts longer and decreases at a slower rate up through the revs.

heehee, go 20vt go

20vt are torque monsters :p

even the 20vt FR delelops 162 lb ft and that is not far off the 177 lb ft of the pd100 derv

my guess is that a remapped 20vt FR would out torque a stock pd100 derv :funk:

not forgetting rashcupra's avatar/user title..............................................

Well when I first drove the 20vt Cupra, I was thinking I might be disappointed with the lower torque figures. And the lower end grunt wasn't the same as my TDI. But it just semed to keep revving for ages compared the to the PD engine. Took me a little while to get used to changing gears later but it's so much better not having that narrow power band. The TDI really runs out of steam quickly and there's just no pull above 4000rpm or so, so you are forced to change gear too soon which takes away from the fun of driving it I think. Sure it's great for overtaking..but the acceleration is better with the 20vt because that gear change isn' t neceesary until much later.

So personally I would rather have slightly less torque and longer acceleration than lots of quick bursts of higher torque. 2nd and 3rd gear on my 1.8T are insane, even more so after the remap :p

hehe, I never said I don't miss the fuel economy. Let me know what kind of sound you get with the tractor ;)

Revs - The only thing that the 20vt has going for it! Oh and the .3 of a second quicker to 60! Wow!

My works van is fookin rapid. All that torque and ease of overtaking ability. Its a true derv beast..... Then a 1.2 fiesta is overtaking me and I realise that torque can be rather decieving.

I used to think my van was faster than my own motor, until I drove them back to back and realised its all a scam.

No doubt the PD Ibizas are fast but no need to try and force it down our throats. We already know ;)

A very unscientific test, I know, but when my brother (CTR) and I had a little drag race from a 15 mph start there wasn't a huge amount in it. The Type-R really started to pull away at around 60. He has a later Type-R (6.4 seconds to 60) and I have a standard Cupra TDI. We were both surprised at how well the Cupra kept up. My point being, the book time isn't necessarily that accurate.

Id agree with that - Saw the mag review with the Clio too. So after 60 the CTR wins outright? It be interesting to see how much ground it makes up from the Beeza TDI after 60-120mph?
