Just had a Cupra R 2010 testdrive

Well, After 6 years owning my Mk1 I am going to get a new one. The reason? I've had so much fun in my Mk1 and it really has never let me down (except when the gear box selector forks snapped ).

So I've just got back from my test drive in a white Cupra R and here is my verdict.


The Interior is very very nice. It appears to have been put together properly this time, unlike the Mk1. No Rattles and the seats are very comfy and body hugging. The Dash is nicely laid out and has an illuminated R logo on the speedo. When you turn on the ignition the dash goes through a weird startup routine where the rev counter and speedo revup. MFD is nicely laid out and similar to the S3.

Acceleration is amazing. Truely insipiring. I couldnt discern any lag unlike the Mk1. The gear box is pretty good to. Very quick to change up and down.

I'm going to have a longer test drive next week but I'm already sold on this car. I had doubts about the styling of the Mk2, given the Mk1 looked the dogs. But this car really is exceptional and a darn sight cheaper and more practical than the Scirroco R.

I don't think you can. The brochure doesn't show it as an option. However I drove an R32 with DSG and wasn't that impressed. Plus it would probably add 2k to the base price.

Stunning! I don't usually go for white but there is just something about this car in white that makes it look good.

I drove it at I.M.G Seat in Warrington.

Its still a lot of wonga for a Seat though. I,m on the fence at the moment.....might go for a test drive and see.

I think it,ll be a cracking car and white is deffo the best colour.

maybe a good seconhand buy but not as new , same with the scirroco , one thing that bugs me at the moment is , is it really worth spending all this cash to have a superior fast car when on a motorway a 1.2 chav corsa does the same legal speed as ypu , gets there the same time but is more economical to run , yeah sure a corsa looks **** but is it really worth it at the end of the day ?
im struggling to justify it tbh
yes if i was a young guy trying to pull the birds and want to look flash no brainer aka poverty but i drive 20k plus a year and while the cupra is nice a 1.4 leon would b=do the same job not that im getting 1.

Thats one way of looking at it Rob. However, i like my comfort/style and like to be able to indulge myself once in a while and put her through her paces. I still enjoy coming back to the car and getting the " my God thats a nice car and it,s mine " feeling

Indeed it is a good point Rob.

I think car's are over priced period - was looking at Fiesta's today for the girl friends next car and they are like 14k brand new for the decent spec'd one's!!

You can pick up a 3 year old Civic R for 10 - 11k with low milage.

The paintwork on car's these days is so crap and get's stone chipped far too easily that the dealers have a nerv asking for hundreds extra for "speed blue" paint and the like!

And why would anyone pay nearly full price for a demo? I got 12% off the list price. Paid less than 24k with tech pack and paint
Only downside is waiting for delivery, but it will be worth the wait!

That's exactly the point - you could have it tommorow - some people are imptient nd the dealers can earn off that

I bought it for 22k. And given it is the demonstrator it is fully loaded.

Sweet.

It was either that or order a new one with the basic kit and wait till next year for it plus pay 20% VAT.
