I keep getting knocking noises on the front and its driving me mad[:@]

Started getting the the noise when going over small bumps on the right when driving slow or steering wheel hard to the right. Now i have it on both sides slightly louder, also if im traveling very slowly put the brakes hard on in forward or reverse i get a clonk and feels like theres a slight bit of movement.

I had new top mounts all round in june when i had coilovers fitted, i've had a good look at all the bushes, and though they are oem and no idea how old they could be, they do look ok, not gone or cracking.

Any ideas anyone on what to look at or give a tug or pull to test anything before ive got to put it in at £60+ and hour for diagnosis.

Thanks all

sounds like you got play in the bushes some were on the front get the car up in the air if you can and get a prize bar and go round all the bushes

Not worth the diagnosis money TBH.
If your cars done a few miles then get the ball joints and front ARB bushes changed, this should cure it.
What car is it again?

The knocking sounds like bushes, but when you mention the "clunk" that sways me to the CV joints and/or arbs, hope this helps

its a 2001 cupra, I had coilovers and remap and front n/s stub axle done in june at the came time and noise started about 2 weeks after. I dont do alot of mileage, have on done about 1000 since june, so in way in progressed quite quick it them terms. i was thinking front arb bushes but they look ok, i suppose that dont really matter.

Get a crow bar under the bar and try moving it either way.
If this is still the OEM bushes and ball joints then they'll need done at some point anyway.
There's a good chance the coilovers are putting more strain on everything

thanks all, i will get it up tomorrow and get pulling about.

How would i know if the droplinks are worn? and am i looking for no play in the ARB?

I did wonder if old bushes was taking a pounding with the coilovers, there Spax RSX and although i find them great, they are a bit harsh if you know what i mean!

TBH, you have nice coilovers there.
To get the best out of these replace the old OEM stuff.
So new drop links, ball joints, track rod ends and wish bone bushes.
Then you'll be tight!!

off to get a price for all these now + arb bushes, is there anywhere that does poss same day?

I sent a message to another member last night who had the problem once the spax was put on, the diagnosis was "basically its the plastic trim in the wheel arch the hits the tyre" so ive got to look at that to now.

I would say this only happens when your really low or have a high offset or massive wheels.

possible bent ARB's

Is it poss that my arb is bent? have a look and tell me what you think.

Clearly not right, i think this is what might be causeing the noise, but is it a bent arb? went through its mot 2 weeks ago, so thought this may have been picked up!

You still got the standard ARB and droplinks so maybe its the ARB hitting on the driveshaft that you can hear?

Is the car jacked up in those pictures? everything will sit it a different position with weight on the wheels.

Can you see marks on the driveshafts wwhere the ARB has been hitting?

didnt really notice that to be honest. pics are taken with the car on the floor.

so do i need a diffrent type of droplink then, though as its sitting on the floor i would still not expect it to be at an angle that on one side

Only if there causing the ARB to hit on the driveshafts.

If they are the only way to cure it is uprated ARB with bigger hoops to clear the shafts or the whiteline one that goes underneith.

If they have been rubbing it will have marked the shafts.

check the drive shafts, no rubbing going on there, i have a good 20mm+ clearence.

the only thing i can think of is the arb on n/s is bent in approx 15-20mm,obviously due to the way the droplink sits there is a good gap at the top between bush and arb.

the car did take a smack before i owned it on that side, so culd it be poss the arb is bent, if so could it cause the noises, though the only thing is it didn't do it before the coilovers were fitted.

may get the mrs to sit in it when she gets back to see if it makes a difference.

so far been quoted 2 hours to fit arb bushes, and droplinks, sound about right? dont really want to get a new arb just yet, moneys getting thin now and thats another £500 for getting and fitting!

2 hours seem fine, it is a PITA of a job.
There are guides on the ARB and the bushes fit up snugly to these if there are no issues.
Check this to confirm deny the bent ARB but TBH if the ARB took a smack its more likely the buses/mounts would damage before the bars as its SOLID!!

Ok i see what your saying, I'm new to suspension setups but im getting there. so is it poss that by changing the bushes and droplink it would straighten up? to me it looks as though it would sit the same, or would the ARB pull over to marry up, if the ARB is that solid then i cant see that either. sorry i know im being a pain in the arse, i dont mean to be a bit of a :w4nk: steep learning curve for me.
