After still having problems with the 1896 software update a couple of weeks ago the Seat garage that did the update has just had my car for a couple of days and updated the software to 1898. The master technician said it was released last week. On my 45 mile journey home I’m pleased to say the car worked perfectly.

My dealer said that they are many pb with 1896. He said that I have to wait September, it will be a new major version… he said also that the 1896 has been deleted by seat to all dealers, they cannot use it anymore. Wait and see… my appointment is made for the 6th September

Be nice to get it ota as I’m on 1896 not sure when it 1898 will be released ota.

Was 1672 initially, got 1896 with the garage last month and today got the 1898 software along the 90U2 procedure (also seems I got a new calcul )

Lucky to get the 1898 as most dealers try not to do the update or just say you have the current version.
you must have a good dealer.

Well depends on the "a good dealer".
I went there today initially for them to reset my car because I could not become primary user anymore after 1896, for which I had given them the tpi to get it, because for them no update was available.
So yeah, they did update to 1898 but then told me I had to come back with 2 keys to become primary user. I was kind in a hurry and didnt want to take the time to explain to them that my problem was that I can't even get to the step you need the 2 keys.
Anyway, I'll bother them again with that for the 2 year maintenance and show them the problem the morning so that they can work on it.

Is there a way to force updates via OTA?

that's the million dollar question.
Some users with 17xx and 18xx firmware got the 1896 one via OTA update.
So far, all users with 16xx firmware had to go the dealer to get the 1896.
As for now and future update, no idea if people with 1896 and newer firmware will all be on equal footing and receive OTA updates.

I didn't even have the 1896 update through OTA ....

Still waiting for 3 months now since I've got 3 smalls update with the 1890 version. But nothing more since then.

My garage still say that they have no update for my car..... (Belgium)

If you went to the dealer - you got the 1896 version
If you got it OTA it shows A896
Not sure if there is any difference to the two versions.
The OTA update was a PITA - it was in three chunks over about 10 days and it stopped access to some functions during the update period.

OTA is only possible for 17xx and 18xx firmware owner.
The A896 was a temporary update and at the end of the update cycle (like you said 3 updates) everyone has the 1896 one.
As for the future, noone knows.

Had mine updated to 1898 by the dealer last Wednesday. Not noticed any significant changes, but it is a little smoother now compared to 1890.

I'm bored with complaining about it now, and the system still feels laggy at times. I had a Formentor as a courtesy car for the day, and the system felt much smoother.

Previous and current numbers attached.

1898 update was installed recently on my 2021 Leon by the dealer to rectify various software issues. Since then, I’ve had further problems after the ‘double pop‘:
  • CarPlay disconnected
  • Screen showed “Seat Connect services deactivated”
  • Heating up from 20C to 22C
  • SOS error: visit workshop
  • When CarPlay re-connected, Apple Maps found wrong current location
I’d welcome any advice on this, or even to know if others have had the same problem recently. Thanks.

They haven’t done the sos update on the telematic module. Unless you ask them to do it to rectify the speaker pop and the error message then they won’t do it. I had 1896 done back in April and thought that included it but no! The 1896 doesn’t sort that issue. You need to get them to update the telematic module to sw142. If you have OBDeleven look at the software version on the telematic module mine was previously 135 so if you are on this version then this is what causes the issues.

So, I explained this in another post but am curious?
I tried seeing what I’m currently running but am unable to see due to a window saying it requires an update, however other than this I have no other indication that I need an update (So no red dot indicating an update or alert) as the infotainment hasn’t been giving me any bother I’ve left well alone.
How do you know if it’s an update needing doing at a dealer as opposed to the kind you can do at home ota???
