LC Standard SMIC & Heat Soak Problems

I was doing a bit of research on the standard fitted SMIC on the LC this arvo, and was reading various things, about the stock set up suffering from heatsoak and loosing power on warm days.

Which got me to thinking (dangerous i know ) and wondered if a small 12v electric fan fitted with a on/off switch on the dash could be used to cool things down a bit when it gets a bit warm.

I'm sure a motorcycle rad fan could be used in the position, as they are fairly small both in diameter, and depth, mounting could be a small task, but i expect some bracket's could be made to fit ok.

Obviously a new SMIC from awesome or forge would help, but i'm talking about improving on the std SMIC cooling capabilities, without spending £300 or £400....

Has anyone here done this on their SMIC Leon, and if so with what results...

And was wondering what people thought ???

If not i might well look into this further... :headhurt:

Don't see why, tbh, a FMIC would be ideal, but a t £700 it's well out of my pocket, it was just an idea to help with cooling on hot days....

But if people want to laff, then go ahead....:lol:

I've got thick skin... :D

true not cheap unless you phone pro alloy and speak to them we just had a group buy for 590 odd!

plus with the speed you'll be doing a 12v fan prob will make no more diff than driving down the road and the air being forced through

I thought BCMs water spray idea was quite interesting a while ago. Not sure if he did it or got any further than the same sort of thread as this......

I agree with Moff though, I don't think a 12V fan would draw enough air through to make a difference. Could be wrong though.

if you have a 12v fan sitting "in front" of the smic, it would only be more restrictive, and would most likely provide less air flow than from naturally moving when the car is accelerating

if it was such a great idea, someone would have done it by now, but they haven't....why? because its a naff idea, hence companies have developed uprated smic's and fmic's.

posting a while back, an uprated smic is not worth it, and if you want decent cooling, then you have to splash the cash and buy a proper fmic i.e. Forge or Pro Alloy

when will people learn, buy cheap, buy twice!

Jeeez, say what what you feel eh.....

So it was a crap idea, fairy ****, but it was just a toe dipped in the water kinda idea, i get it; buy a FMIC, yeah right !!!! when i win the lotto maybe  not at that kind of fairy tale money they cost....

Think i'd probably just go and buy a proper sports car, one that didn't need a shed load of extra money spending on it to make the thing go round corners or feel fast, if i had that kind of dosh to throw around, tbh...

Sheesssh..... :D

apologies, wrote it late last night, and was tired and not in the best of moods

unfortunately in regards to any type of tuning, you get what you pay for, and if you want high quality goods/systems, then you have to pay the price:)

Will do Moff, if i'm not on here i'm normally trawling fleebay, for anything of interest, tbh, i want to get my suspension sorted next, after fitting the new tyres, front and back strut braces i went out for a hoon about on sunday, and it still handles like a wounded shopping trolley, just a better braced shopping trolley.....:roflmao:

Then after the suspension probably a 25mm rear ARB, i think is the next best thing to do, cos there's no way i'd want to up the power, on the stock set up, it's just too soft and floppy around the bendy bit's at the the mo'.... :scary:

But to be serious for a second, it is better than it was before all the add-on's but it's still way to unpredicable on the limit for my liking, just need some money now....
