LCR 50k Service **Update on Page 2**

Just a quick question for you all. My LCR is due its 50k service in a couple of weeks and my local SEAT dealer have quoted me £212. I thought this was a little excessive as the 50k service isn't a major service is it?

After hearing lots of good things about The Motorist Centre in Canterbury and after seeing in my service book my car use to get serviced there back when they use to be an authorised SEAT dealer I gave them a call. They've quoted me £89 which sounds a whole lot better to me!!

Does this price difference sound about right to you?

i payed 70 quid for my 50k service if i remember correctly i had an induction kit at the time and the pollen filter was ok so didnt need doing £212 sounds like a 40k service price

Nope, he gave me a list of other things that needed doing e.g.

Brake pads and discs
Cambelt change
Coolant
Brake fluid
Anit freeze

and a couple of other bits

The total bill to do everything would've been £993 including the service!!!

nice well mine is in for its 60k service today she has only done 56600 miles but i think the water pump is on its way out so i thought i would treat the bitch to a service aswell

Mine has only done 57700 but it hasn't had a service for like nearly 2 years, so i thought it was time to get her sorted. But i still think i was overcharged. I mean the actual parts used in the service was £98, but the labour came to £140!!!

average hourly rate is £40-£45 an hour so 3 and a half hours for a 50k service is a bit long bit then did they do anything else as it is nearly at 60k

Consider yourselves lucky you don't own a Toyota... their hourly labour rate was around £70 when I had the Celica!

I was told by The Motorist Centre that the 50k service takes about an hour and that it wasn't a major service so I can't see where they're getting the £212 from!

I've already had a new cambelt and tensioner fitted due to the water pump breaking so thought I might as well get it done at the same time so that will save me a bit when the 60k service comes along.

I think I'm gonna go take my car to The Motorist Centre then. Thanks for the advice.

Right, now I'm confused and need your help!

I booked my car in with The Motorist Centre, after doing this I rang my local SEAT dealer to cancel the service with them.

The SEAT dealer are now telling me for the price TMC quoted me they will not be doing a proper service i.e. everything that is listed in the service book?! I haven't got my service book to hand so can't check and wondered if anyone can confirm what is actually done at a 50k service please?

My book is in the car, so if you've not found out by 5ish tonight let me know and I'll find out for you.

From memory though, it is nothing more than a filter and fluid service with a few checks to be carried out. 40k is the big service that changes many things, so the 50k shouldn't need much at all.

My book is in my car too but I'll be out of work by 5pm so I can look then, thanks anyway Rob.

Hi

We spoke earlier today regarding this.

The 50k service i quoted for is a basic oil and filter change and brake pad check (This is as listed in the service book)

If the car did require an annual service this would take a bit longer but again include all the items as highlighted in the service book.

We would always use genuine parts and do the job to the Seat schedule as that's how we've been trained to do it from our days of being a main dealer.

Hopefully i covered all your questions earlier but if you do need anymore info please give me a call.

Regards

Ben

£212 for an oil change :wtf:
Sorry, but I've completely lost all confidence in anything Seat dealers say. This sort of thing borders on fraud imo.

Thanks for the replies. I've spoke to Ben at TMC and have got my car booked in for next Friday.

Ste, the £212 quoted by the SEAT dealer was for an annual service so not just an oil change but as I said above I'm going to TMC anyway.

Ben, I'll see you next Friday, thanks for all your help today.

Chris

They will look after you Chris they are all top blokes and have always bent over backwards to try and help me out when ever i need them.

Also if you belive what someone told you about the service there is a viewing area (like at a mot centre) where you can watch them work on your car if you dont want to borrow one of there coutrsey cars
