Unlugged and plugged back in but still happening wayne.
It started fine this morning with no EPC light so guess the MAF isn't dead so it seems.
can someone give me a link to the fault code reader I need to order? there's a few there and I want the 'SCN standard' one that everyone use with succes, lol thanks guys

its defo electrical then some were or a relay.

sam is the orange reader £17.95 plus £5.95 delivery? Light Engine Code Reader, based in Newcastle, that one?

Buy an autel vag405, far better value for money and gives you a proper definition of the fault codes and covers nearly all control units on vag cars.

The car will still start if the Maf is dead but you fault seems to be more throttle/throttle control related i.e throttle butterfly sticking open but without fault codes its very hard to say.

People - we have an answer to my problems. Gotta love vag-com!

As it went earlier, my car wouldn't start 3 or 4 times en route to my mates who was going to scan it using vag-com..

So it started up eventually, and the EPC light came up on the display, bingo, just what I wanted! Got the car round to my mates with it running hesitantly, and sure thing the scan very quickly revealed a fault, engine speed sensor has gone awol.

Mate (who works for a local independent garage) is ordering one tomorrow to be fitted at his garage next week(prob weds). Then it should be sweet again! :)

p.s we used today to get two 4th gear runs using my recently installed FMIC and used vag-com to record the intake temps. Money well spent - sambryant you will be happy about this - temps we're MUCH lower than the run we did before fitting the fmic.. At some point on the old smic's it would reach 35 degrees, but now we're in the low 20's!! QUALITY. :D

Really happy the fmic is doing it's job and very effectively reducing my intake temps. No wonder the car pulls harder and feels much quicker from 3rd/4th onwards!

Cheers Sam, very impressed and happy with how its performing. Soon as I opened up the throttle the laptop was clearly showing the temps drop rapidly, and the faster I went the better it got :D Can't wait to get her mapped now one day! That's going to feel quick from oem to stage 2 :cartman:

Bet it shows up same thing if those are your symptoms mate. The sensor isn't too hard to get to, easiest way is to have the undertray off and replace it that way. Can't wait to get mine sorted. Hate my car being ill!
