RIght guys n' gals, my 2002 LCR is due for it's yearly service and MOT at the end of November.

Now the car has only done 5000 miles since November last year and I am wondering if I should pay the full £170 for the service at a main dealer to keep up the full Seat service history or go to a good reputiable local garage that I know very well and would service and MOT for approx £80-£100 and stamp the book.

Would having the Seat stamp really make that much of a difference in value etc if or when I come to sell it on...???

Personally if I went to buy a car and it had full service history and the book was stamped, I wouldn't be all that bothered as long as receipts were there to back it up.

Your thoughts are welcomed.

Cheers
Chris

For the sake of selling a vehicle having a fully stamped Seat dealership history will be a much better for the buyers piece of mind. I have noticed that if you get specialists to perform a service they are likely to pick up on other issues as well which would be a bit of a pain or a god send depending on what needs replacing. For example my mate has just bought a 'cossie' and with a full dealership history he got it checked over by a specialist and found a number of faults which weren't needed to be fixed straight away but for sake of safety and piece of mind he got them fixed. It cost a bit more than a standard dealership service but he's at least got the issues flagged up by the specialist sorted.

Look at it from the other perspective I am now selling my cupra and having the full seat dealership service history sets it apart from a similar spec and mileage car so I would say its worth having.

Some VW dealers are running a "plus 4" deal where all VAG cars over 4 years old cost £99 to service. Which I didn't think was bad.

no offence to any Dealers here but £200 for an oil change and an oil filter is a joke just for a stamp. my local garage runs a national service scheme where they use genuine parts and have a full check list of things to look at on the car, they also strip down the braks and re grease, check tryres, exhaust, levels, etc etc and it cost me £120!!!

gives me greater peace of mind knowone someone has actually looked at the car and not just changed the oil which anyone with half a brain can do.

a lad i work with has a leon FR, went in for its first service at JCT666 and they told him it needed new disks and pads front and back, when he arrived to collect his car at the end of the day the receptionist was just telling someone over thier phone that the service had been done but suprise suprise it needed new disks and pads front and back.

find your self a decent local garage that wont BS you. its the future!

its going to depend on the buyers experience.... when i first got my leon it would have made a difference for me. a full dealer service history was reassuring.....

however... now ive owned the car a while and experienced a dealership service to an independent one... i wouldnt be bothered. as long as there reputable id be happy. in fact if it was modified id prefer a specialist garage.

the person who buys a lcr is looking for power.... proberly into cars so as long as its stamped i reckon most would be fine.

ive realised its more important to be able to get on with the people and that they love the car as much as me... elton at jabbasport did my cam belt and water pump change.... not bad is it... guys modded his mark 2 golf 1.8t to a speed of 177mph! i think that makes him qualified to look after my motor.:worship: funny always seems faster after hes touched it
