Hi Chaps,

Was down the in-laws the other night and my brother in law told me that I had never taken him for a spin in my LCR since I got it, so off we popped and sneaked out for a quick burn round the block.

Took the car out onto a dual carriageway nearby and not suprisingly he was very impressed whilst 5hi**ng his pants. It was when we got back to the house I asked him to take me out in his 1.7Vti Honda Civic, its a 2 + 2 coupe in coachwork black on a 52 plate. He took me round the same route and booted the cr@p out of it, I was quite impressed and the VTEC does make a difference, BUT, those engines scream like crazy!!
I was not the leat bit impressed with the build, everything SO plasticy, and when shutting the doors the entire car rattles and when he was booting it some I felt like I WILL die if this car hits something, seem so flimzy :(

Anyway, I did notice that he would floor his car when in all gears including 1st, where as when I took him out in mine I did not floor it in 1st gear cos you know the cars gonna be all over the gaff, spinnin out, do you lot agree? It does seem a shame though for as much as you wanna feel raw power in 1st gear floored, you just can't! knowing full well you may lose traction on the front wheels

When I squeeze the trigger in 1st I get sideways action and then a flashing light on the dash :p I also get that in 2nd. I bring the revvs up a bit, in 1st.. but I definitely don't go nuts... it's pointless. The turbo makes it pointless.

???
so your saying its a shame your car is more powerful?

or do you mean that because the powder is delivered higher up the rev range in the honda it allows you to use 1st gear more..?

abvious answer would be have a taller 1st gear on the LCR.
or more simply a more delicate use of the right foot.

agree with you their Lickwid, I mean you could load the front wheels with softer rubber for extra traction but they would be eaten in weeks. I remember my mate back in the days had a Mk1 Escort RS Turbo, and when he popped his foot down the car would really move and was glued to the floor, the only thing he would be doing is fighting the steering wheel due to torque steer, but those things really sunk you in the seat.

Well, my understanding of his post led to my answer: In short, I don't go nuts in first because I just spin aimlessly. I tend to leave the heavy foot until the end of 2nd and upwards.

yep need to keep a delicate foot on the trigger at 1st gear, agreed andycupra. Happy the fact I got a more powerful car though, ofcourse lol
