Oh I absolutely agree that going straight for a bigger/hybrid turbo is going to give bigger results, and a gas flow + blueprint would maybe liberate 5-8bhp for several thousand pounds worth of work. Therefore to most, this is not value for money at all. 99% of people out there are happy with the 'easier' option (again, I fully appreciate we are speaking relatively here!).

But for those people building big power motors, spending thousands on big turbo conversions and the like, replacing manifolds and full exhaust systems, a gas flow is well worth it for a few hundred quid (and although a blue print is over the top, I spend time with people who need reliability too -i.e. race cars). A friend with an old Suzuki GSXR1100 recently rebuilt his engine, complete with a blueprint, gas flowed head, reprofiled cams, full titanium 4 into 1 exhast, and its a monster. It revs sooooo smoothly now, to over 12k and the power it puts out is savage. He does own a CNC firm, so could do 98% of his own work and therefore bought the cost right down. He also built the engine in my old Mk 1 Golf.

Thats the thing I love about cars - I could go completely and utterly skint in the search for perfection, yet still have more things I'd like to do!

This is one man's idea of how to get the max from a 1.8T engine...Don't know if you have read this but it's quite interesting... think Bill was running circa 400bhp at the end.

Thanks Ruddmeister, thats awesome! I'll have a proper look through later, although I am aware of Bill's work from his Jetta days.

i was just asking to see if the intercooler has done anything cos now it pulls hard all the way to 7k then just runs out of steam, i dont recall it being like this before.

Your rev limiter will be at around 7k so you'll feel a sudden lack of power! Unless it's not remaped then the standard limiter is at 6,600rpm IIRC

its not remapped and goes to 7k

Strange!! Shouldn't be able to if it's standard! Especially if yout in a low gear and the revs are building fast the ECU kills the power fairly early on! If you are in a high gear such as 5th or 6th it is possible to take it slightly over the limier threshold!

think this was 3rd at 95 ish cant really remember, could the FMIC have donr this, i was just trying to see if i had any gains from it.

Nah the FMIC would not do this unless it's leaking!

As for gains with the FMIC, because yours isn't remapped then the charge temperature wont be that high because the turbo is working comfortably within its efficiency range! You'll only see gains if you take it beyond this range where your working the turbo harder leading to high charge temperatures! Get it remap mate, your wasting your money otherwise! ;)

ah right i see, yes remap is on the cards i just want to get all bits done before the custom code
