Unfortunately, SEAT won't do anything car is out of manufacturer warranty. They won't change your light for free! I have misalignment issue on my light (see Royston got the same issue probably he isn't just aware of this) I have complained to SEAT without any result they can't find the issue even if this is described in PKI issued by SEAT. The gesture of goodwill was 30% of the parts and 30% label cost price for one light was still £680 ridiculous expensive for manufacturer fault. I get to this point complaining through Motor ombudsman this case still hasn't been closed after 1 year already. My threat about misalignment is here https://forums.seatcupra.net/index....n-to-the-other-headlight.435683/#post-4775644

Hi all, first post on this forum, discovered this thread after googling my issue. Did anyone find a solution for this at all or is it live with it untill it fails an MOT? My Leon is 64 plate.

Such a shame, the headlights looked great untill this:

Sorry to dig up such a old post but mat car looks similar to above, not loss of vision from the light just aesthetically looks a bit messy. Do you think a professional headlight restore would reduce this?

No, since the fuzziness is on the inside and only way to get to it would be to disassemble the headlight - that in turn would introduce a whole new type of issues and take a fair amount of time and efforts

@Jaco2k thanks for confirming that, i will live with it then seen as new headlights are around £500 a corner.

Hi guys, hope it's OK that I'm 're-opening' this thread? I can see it been a year since the last post and I was wondering if anyone had solved their dusty LED headlights?

I've just bought a 2018 Leon Fr St and have the same issue. I'm hoping there is a solution to clean them out instead of buying new units?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Chris

Maybe coincedence, but I noticed that on more than one of the pictures of these 'dusty' headlights, I noticed the cars came with headlight washers? Maybe the lens covers are degrading due to incompatible screenwash being blasted at the headlights?

Interesting! Does anyone know what type of screen washer fluid should or should not be used?

I mean your MK3.5 ones are 3 plus years old, and have headlight washers and quite 'dusty', the first post with pics in page 1, just mildly 'dusty' but I didn't see any headlight washers, but the middle pic that is really 'dusty' did have headlight washers too. My Mk3 Leon before I had for 3 years didn't have any signs of this 'dust,' had headlight washers, but I only put in Autoglym and Halfords blue (down to -5 degrees) screenwash. Perhaps if people just put in the no-brand sceenwash these accelerates this? Most of these that have issues are cars from 2013 (mine was 63 plate) and I guess since LED headlights were just coming out, all came with washers 'just in case,' even though no winter pack! Latter Leons did not have washers unless speced with winter pack or similiar.

Seriously?

Ours is just over 3 years old and no sign of this issue (that's jinxed it  ). We also have headlight washers and have always used Halfrauds -20% Concentrate ('cos Mrs S says it smells like G&T!!).
TBH, unless you do a huge amount of night driving, the headlamp washers hardly ever get used.

Thanks for the replies, but I really can't see how the type of washer fluid can cause dust to build up on the inside of the light. Then again, I'm no mechanic or physicist!

Obviously the dust caps are 'sealed' (for whatever reason), but does anyone think I could open them and carefully brush the dust away with some sort of home modified long armed soft brush? Maybe I could adapt a brush-type fitting to the hoover and carefully clean the inside? Of course I don't want to go poking around if someone here with more knowledge thinks it's a stupid idea.

I don't have headlight washers and have the same issue so I don't think it's caused by using a "wrong" type of washer fluid. In another thread I read Seat used a wrong filter in the earliest models which caused dust getting sucked in. First I also thought it were micro cracks. But let's assume it's electrostatic attached dust and it can be cleaned if you would take the light apart, what do you have to change (about the filter) to prevent this from happening again? Or if you don't want to clean the headlight, do new headlights have the right filter fitted?

Going to have a look on mine tonight as I sense I am seeing the same issue on my 18 plate.

Initially thought the outside of the lights were just dulled by general wear and tear of dust hitting them at speed so was going to get a headlight restoration kit but now you have me a little more concerned.

If there is a vent hole somewhere is it not possible to blast some compressed air through it, might not clean the lens but may move the dust out of the beams field.

Might work, although there is quite a lot of hardware between the back and the lenses/mirrors. So I doubt if the air reaches there. I also don’t exactly know where the filter vent is located and if it’s removable.

I also doubt if your headlights are dulled. Doesn’t happen that often with modern headlights anymore. So be carefull with restoration kits and polishing because you will remove the UV blocking coating which prevents them from getting dulled.

My lights were ruined by a seat approved body shop (pic) but before I had the same issue as you described. Anyhoo, the body shop had to fix my lightsby polishing and re applying a UV coating to lights appeared to fix the issue. The repair was all done from the outside. I'll double check tonight but just my two cents

I've fixed mine by polishing them and then applying UV coating to them. It took a few hours but worked pretty well! I'm sure the more experienced people will get it 100%. I used 400grit all the way up to 3000 grit to get into the deep cracks + then polish them.

That Sound interesting, have any before and after pics? What UV-protection did you use?

Wonder if it will work with the 3m headlight restorer kit, which works great on regular old faded lenses?😁
