Your right that custom is far more expensive....but its the age old saying you get what you pay for....

Reading IOMMAN's thread - they'll just use Eibach springs

So all they'll do is valve a damper? So working on the theory that most coilovers are adjustable.... what's the custom aspect again?

I think Rob's points are the most valid (as I tried to state earlier) regarding longevity of seals, Bills point regarding plating

Ilmore make great race engines. wouldn't want one since I couldn't get to London & back on it though.

Indeed this is true. But you'll be paying for a lot more than just a suspension kit. You'll be paying for the man-hours etc too.

By purchasing a kit thats widely available, the prices have dropped due to mass production, and the r&d costs etc are spread across 1000's, if not millions of sales worldwide.

Anyway, enough of that. I'm sure you're aware of the way it works :) If you can give us a rough idea of the spec of them too (when you know) we'll look forward to seeing the results / costs. :)

I spoke to Leda over a year ago before i purchased my H+R's. At that point they quoted me about £800 for a mk4 golf kit. Told them the front struts are different due to the drop link mounting. They weren't sure what i was meaning and i couldnt afford the car to be off the road for ages. Are they going to develop it specifically or just use a golf kit?

Or to but it another way, you could pay many £1000s for Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen to decorate you're back passage, but you could pay any half decent decorator to do it at a fraction of the price.

I'm sure leda will do a good job of your LCR, but why bother as theres other kits readily available off the shelve that will do the same job.

pmsl with this thread and others like it - fascinating the amount of misinformation that is about.

A top quality racing / rally damper will be no more or less 'hard' than a street damper - unless its built to be so - what will be better is the materials and tolerances and the ability to fine tune / modify what the damper characteristics are.

Rob

I would disagee with that rob i would say that rally dampers/race dampers will be harsher than road dampers as they will have a more agressive valving set up for compression damping to aid steering response and is the primary factor for comfort compared to road dampers.
