Leon Cupra T with 100,000 miles...Any good?

Hi,

I have seen a Cupra T facelift 2003 with 100,000 miles.

What does everyone think of this sort of mileage on the Leon? Do they wear well? Anyone got any personal exprience with this?

these engines do wear well if looked after properly (i.e regular servicing). with a mileage like that you def. need to be checking things like cambelt + water pump have been done at the appropriate time. i'd also be wary of having a knackered turbo as the miles go much above 100,000 but if all seems in good order and the price is right theres no reason not to go for it.

As above - but even if the Cam belt and water pump were done at 60k you'll be looking at doing them again fairly soon depending on your mileage - (every 60k).

Turbo & clutch would be the tests and inspections I'd want to do.

At that sort of mileage I'd be looking to change the bushings
And a very through inspection by someone in the know
If you know a local Seat/VAG independant ask if you can take it to them and have them give it a thourgh looking over, if your near Scotland I know of a very good garage that would do this for you

Just to add though, "officially" the cambelt doesnt need changing til 120k, it just needs "checking" at 60k, so to someone who isnt really into cars they may not have done it.

Wouldn't scare me at all.

Plenty of people on here with LCs and LCRs with much higher mileage.


Key things are regular servicing and a thorough inspection prior to purchase.

The engines wear well and they're near bullet-proof, when not abused.

I wouldnt say that mate. They may not be into cars, but as long as its been looked after by a decent garage then it should be fine.

100,000 miles 03 Cupra T with FSH? £5000. Absolutely tops. Anything more and I'd expect that car to be mint.

What do ya mean, even if?

Face-lifts command more than non.. for obvious reasons and the 100,000 miles dictate you won't pay much more than 5k.. in fact for that milestone kind of mileage, I'd say 5,000 was somewhat expensive. (Although reasonable..... condition dependant).

i would **** myself looking at one with that mileage after the problems with mine after 50k!!!

think its just me being unlucky tbh tho. just posted a thread "i fear the worst"!! just a personal opinion from my car tho

with any model from any manufacturer there will be some bad apples that end up with some unfortunate person who will ultimately end up despising the brand and vow never to buy another car from them.

however, the majority of people will have mostly good experiences with vag cars as they have proven to be exceptionally reliable in a number of different forms for a great number of years. simply put, look at the cars history!

When i bought mine i was very careful to pick one with a good history that had been well looked after and even though i may have paid slightly over the odds for it i have only had minor problems so far that have been quickly resolved. nothing yet has shaken my confidence in the lcr or vag in general and i think the majority of people on this forum will say the same.

my car was owned by a solicitor and was serviced every 10 k only the front tyres changed once in 42 k.i thought...im onto a winner...not so!!maybe he got rid due to some faults but i would say ive been vvvvv unlucky!!

I bought a V6 4motion Golf (fairly cheap) with 140k and spent £500 in the first two weeks making it right. However, I wasnt too bothered as I know the sort of things that go wrong, and I fixed it all myself. however, if I had to get it all done at a garage I would easily have paid £500 more.

However, I could have bought one with 50k, and it could easily have had the same issues.

My point is that miles arent necessarily a bad thing.

Also, a mate of mine has a Passat on 250k!!!! he's the 3rd owner and bought it with 40k on it. It has had no engine work, apart from servicing, and it still has the original clutch!!!!!

i completely agree, but that was my point really. you can NEVER be sure that a car is going to be good for you. you can however help yourself out by avoiding cars with a history of problems.
