I have the 150 1.4 and love it and I'm a big fan of horsepower and sportier cars. It has enough power for what I need and it's still only £30 a year to tax so definitely a win there. You get a lot of bang for your buck with the 150, such a good engine which is why it's so popular. Also gets just as much mpg as my older Astra sporthatch 1.9cdti 150 too.

The OP is talking about the 2.0 150bhp diesel and not the 1.4tsi

Road tax on the 184 is £20

My bad but I was going to add, definitely go with 18s you won't regret it. If we are talking diesel to diesel definitely go with the 184 no question.

I wouldn't get another diesel now, but I don't think there's a petrol Leon that stands up to the 184, unless you jump to Cupra but diesel vs petrol is a whole new debate

Same here
Very satisfied with mine.. But the sound of a petrol is a completely different story :)

I just think my lease is up in October 18 by which point diesels will continue to be beaten by the new tax laws, environment crap etc and petrol power will be for me

1.8 TSI has the same horsepower and 0-60mph time, but nowhere near the torque.

Yeah I was going to go for that originally but they just seemed few and far between and the mileage I was doing at the time made diesel more logical, 6 months later my mileage has axed haha

Same here, was looking at 1.8TSI's for a while but they are far and few between. Then I realised that the 184 was only £20 road tax and about £400 less to insure!

I do about 10k miles a year so I could just about justify the diesel.

A consensus is starting to emerge - don't buy a diesel.
Now if you want power, refinement and torque then I'd go for an....OK I'll get my coat.

I had the 150 - All i can say is -Its a good car - nothing exciting - does the school run - and a bit of fun if You work it hard . Ive had 2 - 184s - its a good car - does the school run - and loads of fun when you dont push it hard - But tons more fun when you do !! The 150 wont bring a smile to your face when your leaving the lights on green and the focus St is next to you !!
Just buy the 184 - The St may or may not win - but you'll gain its respect ! fuel difference is very little - fun factor and road holding is huge !! :D:D

Oh - and just a follow on - to the owner of a black bmw 330ci on the A45 - coming out of birmingham - off the lights at the airport - If thats the best 0-100 you can do - go buy a diesel !!
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I had exactly the same dilemma. In the end I went for a 150 (fr diesel st) as I got a much newer car with a better spec (it was ex demo with titanium pack, convenience pack and seat sound). There are times when I think I'd like the extra performance ( I used to have a mk5 golf gti which was quicker) but overall I don't regret my choice, in fact it's a car that I can see me keeping for much longer than previous ones.
