Leon FR 150 PS brake upgrade to the 184 PS brakes

I want to upgrade my brakes slightly to the 184 ps model brakes (288mm - 150hp to 312mm - 184hp fronts, 253mm - 150hp to 272mm rears).

Am I right in thinking it's just the caliper carriers that need to be changed to the 184hp model in order to achieve the fitment for this slight upgrade?

You could well be. I know that was the case on the mk1 leon platform

However cannot confirm either way for the mk3 unfortunately

No, also need the calipers.

If you compare the rears the orientation of the caliper is also different.

Ahhh I presume that’s to do with the multi link suspension, at this rate I may aswell go with a proper upgrade with some 4 pots or something

Want a bit more bite, fill the wheel out a little bit more and I have a few plans to increase power somewhat so thought a fairly easy bolt on conversion would be a decent idea, how that idea got shattered

The fronts look the simplest bolt on - new carrier and caliper type upgrade. 288 & 312 discs are same height, also same pads - so just bigger disc dia. The calipers between 288 & 312 are different part numbers - I don't know what the physical difference is if any? sometimes it's just a colour?

The rears may be more complicated - the 272 rear discs are 3mm different in height (48 vs 51) - also use completely different pad type, and as mentioned mount in a different position.

The bite should be good as stock.

When i got a leon mk3 brand new the brakes were very good and sharp so you maybe need a bit of maintenance.

Decent discs and pads and brake fluid change

Both TRW and Conti and many other aftermarket brake caliper suppliers have different parts for 312 & 288 calipers. Both have 57mm pistons but the 312 caliper is slightly wider.
I'm 99% sure you'll need a 312 caliper to go with the 312 caliper carrier and disc.

OE part numbers:
312 calipers
8V0615123D Left
8V0615124D Right

288 calipers
8V0615123 Left
8V0615124 Right

You can often find caliper and carrier on ebay from car breakers.

184 also has alloy knuckles vs 150 which has iron - but I 'think' 'hope' the mounting lugs will be the same.

Sorry dude, life’s been a bit up in the air for a few weeks, these will be painted this year I promise as for when, it could be closer to Christmas when stuff has settled down and more time is available

No worries man, i just started digging into it and couldn't find a conclusive answer, your thread was the most informative so i figured i would ask if you succeed

Did the swap myself, replaced the caliper carriers and the rest was plug and play, no need to replace the calipers
